The ironies of India's economic crisis - Financial Times

Well that anyones guess. This is just a stop gap measure to please ppl to get more votes. Its too deplorable. And an election is the only way out.

A not so funny thing happened while the world was watching for an emerging markets crisis to erupt in China. The crisis erupted in India instead.

Contagion typically attacks weak links first, often exposing vulnerabilities hidden in plain sight. The fall of the rupee exposes India as having the emerging world’s worst fiscal deficit and largest current account deficit in absolute terms.

It was written by the Financial Times.

If it is an exaggeration, then do you have any data to contradict it?

As for China, bear in mind that we do not have a deficit. In fact we have a current account SURPLUS.

Rupee hits record low, posts biggest fall in nearly 18 years - Times of India

The rupee hit a record low on Tuesday and posted its biggest single-day fall in nearly 18 years after the lower house of Parliament approved a nearly $20 billion plan to provide cheap grain to the poor, raising concerns the fiscal deficit will blow out even further.

The partially convertible rupee closed at 66.24/25 per dollar after hitting a record low of 66.30, and down 2.9 per cent from its close of 64.30/31 on Monday.

This is the biggest single-day drop for the currency since October 1995, according to Thomson Reuters data. The 194 basis points fall also marks the rupee's biggest single-day decline in absolute terms ever.

In a way good for the country in the long term. Economy bottoming out, Rupee collapse should wake up the laid back Govt to kick start slew of long overdue reforms.
