India set to be world's second largest steel producer

No point in simply producing steel. Steel produced should be of better quality. We often end up importing steel for subs & nuclear boiler plants.

The major industrial countries climb up the technology ladder and try to produce better quality steel, and specialist steel for specific roles. These fetch a far higher price per ton.

The next step is to chase them up this ladder and go for a better quality product.

I hope the useless idiots at the Karachi 'steel' plant are reading this.

Great going India. Never mind the chinese chit chat.

As for bangladeshis commenting , i can only laugh.

OT: Agree or not, India has now advantage of cheap labour.
On labor cost, COME ON! This is the 21st century, have u heard of "automation" and the ongoing industrial revolution?
Do you know the notion of "productivity per capita" and "manufacturing value added"?

So, slowing down of economy isn't surprising.
Meanwhile, India is a lower middle income economy, trying to be upper middle income. As the middle class expands, production will have to be ramped up.

Slowing China is still adding an entire indian GDP every 3 years.....
And the poor China's middle class is 5 times higher than india according to Credit Suisse 2015 Global Wealth Report based on the same PPP number.

pollution, all issues will have to resolved to give a better lifestyles to its citizens

I'm more concerned about pollution in india because pollution in industrial countries come from industry.
And it will be largely reduced when a country is moving up the supply chain.
In China's case, more global brands like Huawei and DJI and more higher-end suppliers emerging in the global supply chain show how a country is boosting productivity per capita and increasing manufacturing value added.
(Pls refer to WIPO 2016 ranking)

But pollution in india comes from nowhere (industrial activity is tiny), yet shockingly terrible in global rankings.
(Pls refer to WHO most polluted city ranking)
You can't imagine how terrible the situation in india will be, if you could consume half of China's steel consumption one day.....
Pollution from nowhere + pollution from the heavy industry
Hope that won't add some bad effect on india's healthy life expectancy.

This is from a country who already have 20% land mass gone for desert and uninhabited.

China’s deserts spread at an annual rate of more than 1,300 square miles and for years, China’s deserts spread at an annual rate of more than 1,300 square miles

Every nations have own set of standard for roads/expressways, so let's not compare. In China, highways are constructed based on legislation JTG-B01-2003 ("Technical Standard on Highway Construction"/"公路工程技术标准"). By 2012, the levels and respective quantities are as below:
  • Expressways are Controlled-Access highway, the highest-grade type of highway with access ramps, lane dividers, etc., designed for high-speed vehicular traffic, with all traffic flow and ingress/egress regulated. 111,950 km.
  • Level 1 Highway (一级公路) 74,300 km
  • Level 2 Highway (二级公路) 331,500 km
  • Level 3 Highway (三级公路) 401,900 km
  • Level 4 Highway (四级公路) 2,705,800 km
  • Unclassified Highway (等级外公路) 627,900 km
  • Total Highways 4,141,400km

You r right....less than 10% of indians roads can be referred as roads in China.
Each country has its own standards, we should not generalise.
But some cheats and lies should be debunked, for other sensible members for reference.

China's Reforestation Efforts Successful, NASA Images Confirm

The reforestation rate is higher compared to the 0.38 percent deforestation rate for the same period. Around 160,000 square kilometers or 61,000 square miles of land area was covered.

Hope india can have better reforestation rate......

I'm not sure about that....
But according to many indians, most indians are considered "middle class".
though annual smart phone shipment is only one quarter of China's and average selling price is amazingly 70 dollars (so high, i cannot afford one:cry:)

But the truth is, the premium smartphone market in India is extremely thin.

As per Gartner, the Average Selling Price (ASP) of smartphones in India is $70 and smartphones under $120 contribute around 50% of overall smartphone sales here. Now consider the pricing of the new smartphones launched in China. The Mi Note 2 starts selling at $413 and goes all the way to $516 for the high-end variant. The Mi Mix starts at $516 and goes till $590 for the high-end variant. Lastly, the Mi 5s is priced at $295 for the base variant and goes all the way to $385 for the high-end Mi 5s Plus.

It will take at least another 100 years to manage your problem on deserts.Yes nothing will come from your country any negative news and that's how your country works, since media is controlled by govt.I can post a 100 negative news about china, but we are not trolls like you on each and every thread on chinese matters. No wonder why west does not like many chinese, even though you do good trade with them and that's why getting visa for chinese is difficult than indians abroad...

Thank you for the classification criteria....
I don't know how many times RSSers will pick it up with those crappy roads......
But, it's a good lesson not to brag about something not worth it....
Those RSSers should better inform themselves with the truth of their own country.
Read something that is not from TOI and other junks.

According to this article, China produced 673 MT, mist likely conservative numbers. India produced 79 MT.
Boasting article by indians. Lol. It's like a guy making 79k/year boasting he is second highest paid employee compared to the man making 673k/year lol

@Beast @AndrewJin @cirr

According to road criteria in many countries, most roads in india won't be classified as "roads".
In most countries, only paved roads are included....
In China's case, not just paved, but has to comply with a strict national standard.

But in india's case, the number seems like cheating.....
That's why the number is so shining there, but people find nowhere to drive.....

@Shotgunner51 @long_ @terranMarine @Jlaw
This is the Nth time I see an indian bragging about that shining number of "roads"
Correct. A dirt path is a dirt path but in India it's an express way lol

The good thing is that we do not have the ghost capacity which is established blindy. We are all set to utilize them in 70% + unlike China. Our production will be domestic demand driven. China is in a position where they have to dump it at bellow production cost just to recover fixed cost.

As expected,
I have seen as guest earlier, this thread too got ruined.
