India loses out on artillery buy as M-777 production ends

Hahahahaha! This is a good news. Actually now they will have to rethink about the project of home development of guns. The problem is. India can develop everything even of international standard. But their policy is not pro indigenous development.

Can you share any such guns currently under production in India?

Indian metallurgy is not able to produce quality barrels for those guns.

Thanks for being truthful. And I am current, India need to focus on basic material research first before worrying about making anything high tech. I know that there are no kickbacks for basic research, but this is where India has to start.

But of course, this will never happen as the keyword here is "kickbacks"

India should manufacture its own gun and artilery..this is pure physics nothing else...the will to get things done in india from politicians to the project manager should not be based on kickbacks but ethical responsibility and patriotism...

There is hell of difference between tank's barrel and artillery gun's barrel.

Do you know the difference between tank's range and artillery's range.

One more thing tanks carry limited number of ammos but artillery have to go on and on for longer durations.

Rate of fire is also major difference.

those guys are in effect saying that as long as its round and fire something out of it, its the same. Have the understanding that the ones that are the longer and more lasting duration are not the same as others.

Are you a man or woman?

Thank you for telling us the obvious difference between a 120 mm tank gun and 155mm Artillery gun.

Now tell us what is the Tank Gun barrel rated for ? how many rounds and what is its droop factor ? Now tell us the same for an Artillery gun of your choice.

In India, the strongest alligiance is to its on caste and community. No to the nation. would a Brahman really care for the live of a Dalit or vise versa? No they won't.

This is a good opportunity to buy the line and move it to India. the delay might actually have benefits for once.

Unfortunately, it is not. It is a lot more than pure physics. Cutting edge metallurgy and material science, and even electronics plays a part in this one. There is a reason that nobody else in the world manufactures something in the ballpark of the M-777.

We are not talking about any run of the mill artillery or rifle. (The Indian field gun and INSAS are Indian made artillery and rifles respectively that are in widespread service in the forces.) We are talking about a very light artillery piece made of a special titanium alloy using a special manufacturing process. It is very light, and yet gives the same firepower as a much heavier gun, while being fully airmobile. It is for a specific requirement of equipping the new mountain strike force with mobile artillery. It is a niche requirement, not supposed to be standard arty. (That will be developed by Indian private companies, and the OFB who's gun is already being tested.) The radar of the M-777 is also world class.

India need to learn how to purchase advance weapons properly.

TBH, India cannot build an artillery gun as equivalent to bofors from scratch. Let's be frank, even if we have technology to build it, it will lack in quality, due to lack of perfection in industry. There might have been talks but till now no project has been seriously initiated and this is worrisome for us. JVs are the only hope for India.

There are still many option avalible on the market...India can go for Russian light howtizers !!!

So India currently do not build any field artillery pieces. Either light weight or regular ones?
