What's new

India Developing, but still a long way to go

It's Indians here who insist on the comparison. I can easily point to your media and Chinese + Hongkong media for that. Keep your two cents.

That's because we have an open media unlike yours. Our media points to China to make our lazy *** politicians to work to be like China. Chinese should take it as a complement. I hear Chinese compare themselves to America, I don't see America bitching about it.

Completely wrong, China has private non-governmental for profit newspapers and tabloids and is Hongkong's media censored as well? The government only censors materials they deem a threat their rule. India is neither a threat nor a something that people care or talk about.

if you read Chinese internet forums China doesn't compare itself to America.

first of all u urself initiated that a metro needs to b underground otherwise it is express line or simple railway

First of all the problem is that u Chinese the criteria for achievement is what have been achived by u,the rest is waste,u pretty much ignored a fact that a huge portion of Delhi metro is elevated, for the same reason to escape traffic congestion.

i am in no mood for a comparison here,as u chinese had made it a habbit to start mud slinging for any development done or achieved in India, when we fools keep thanking and congratulating u

i met an another Chinese fool in an another thread who claim that Indian economy is overestimated because we dont have manufacturing base or exports like Chinese, since this r their biggest industries chinese criteria for development is now manufacturing and exports(only when it comes to India)otherwise even nation's like Australia will b relegated to a 4th world nation

Ome more thing,it is the Japan itself which assisted us in Delhi metro, and they claimed Delhi will b as good as Tokyo metro,so take my 2 cents here

Don't be so sensitive. I only remind that u should count Gurgaon and Noida to Delhi metro in floor 1067# first. They are all satelite city of Delhi, are they?

And no one say a metro needs to be underground otherwise it is express line or simple railway. A line maybe some place underground and some place on the ground. But there are some line completely on the ground in the 150Km length u call. this is what make me puzzled.

And whether Delhi metro is as good as Tokyo metro, there is one thing call "google".

Oh ya, but do they influence the foreign policy in your country? or At least tell me if they talk about Party's decision on any thing? Do they criticize their decision or mock them like our media does? Just having few tabloids doesn't do it, its more about what they can do.

Bangalore Updates Again

Vayu Vajra goes high-tech with ICE services

NET GAINS:The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation will operate 200 such buses to Bengaluru International Airport once the project is completed.

BANGALORE: Passengers travelling to the Bengaluru International Airport from ITPL will soon find they never have to go ‘offline'. The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation's Vayu Vajra bus service, which ferries people to the airport and back, is soon set to provide entertainment and Internet consoles attached to the back of every seat.

The initiative called, ICE (Information, Communication and Entertainment) on Wheels, was launched by Transport Minister R. Ashok who inaugurated the first bus outside the Vidhana Soudha here on Thursday. The BMTC will soon float tenders to initiate this project. Mr. Ashok said that 200 such buses would ply to the airport once the project was completed. Notably, passengers will not be charged extra for these services.

Customer response

This bus will ply between ITPL and the airport for about a month to gauge passenger response. Besides browsing the Internet, software packages will enable passengers to easily keep track of flight information, book tickets and even do an online check-in during their commute. Integrating such ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) and PTS (Passenger Information System) will increase passenger comfort and get more people to switch to public transport, BMTC officials said.

How does it work?

A majority of the seats on the Vayu Vajra bus will be fitted with a seven-inch touch-screen at the back, except for those right at the back. This tablet-like PC, developed by Bangalore-based tech firm EAFT Technologies for this pilot project, will allow you to browse the Internet while on the move by connecting to a Wi-Fi network through central servers remotely controlled by the firm. It also offers a wide range of software applications to engage commuters on their long commute. These include popular applications such as daily horoscope, live stock exchange news and weather information.

Jai Shiv, Director, EAFT Technologies, said: “People who travel to the airport spend close to an hour in the bus. Why not provide them with entertainment and access to information while they are commuting?” The firm has developed more than 70 applications that are bundled with these devices.

Highlights of coming months..!!

Head of top powerful nations are lined up to visit India to have strategic, economic & political dialogs with India as they all are fully aware of the potential of this country.

* US President Barak Obama going to visit India in 5 November 2010 for 3 day long stay (highest for any US president, I suppose).

* French president Nicholas Sarkozy coming to India on December 6 2010.

* Russian President Dmitry Medvedev also be visit India somewhere in December 2010.

* Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has also planned to visit India in December 2010 (dates are not confirmed).

Also

* British Prime Minister David Cameron came to India in July 28, 2010 with the biggest delegation ever.

Indian Prime Minister has just met with Japanese Prime minister in Tokyo last month.

Which significant country is left???? :azn:

What is happening is not a coincidence but rather a true reflection of India's growing global clout which will keep on growing in coming years.

^^ Symbolism aside, what's most important is what we get out of all these visits for us!

Everyone talk about MRCA (10 billion deal) where India is going buy aircraft from any one of the countries like US, France & Russia. These countries are trying their level best to lure India with other lucrative deals just to secure MRCA.

Lets have a look to this news. India is going to buy 8+ billion $ worth of electrical goods for its rapidly growing power generation section. Home grown companies are not able to fullfill the demand as they are already full of order till their nose (although capacity enhancement is underway)

Quite offtrack, but I am just wondering for how long China would like to keep its relationship hostile with India (also to please Pakistan as far as Kashmir goes). I know Chinese give more importance to business as that is what make them special as fastest growing economy.
India, while adding almost one Pakistan economy (165 billion, 2010) every year to its GDP (considering 9.5% of GDP growth) and also taking India China trade worth to the size of Pakistan by 2015 (currently 60 Billion$ and growing 20% annually), I can firmly conclude that the outlook of China towards India will not be the same by 2015 and they will avoid confronting India on Anurachal Pradesh.
India and China shared their past peacefully and hope to continue the legacy.

Shanghai /Hong Kong: Shanghai Electric Group has won a $8.29 billion deal to supply power equipment to Anil Ambani’s Reliance Group, prompting its shares to jump to their highest in 30 months.

Shanghai Electric, the largest power producer in Shanghai, said in a statement late on Wednesday that it will sell 36 coal-fired thermal power generation units, spare parts and related services to Reliance ADA Group over a 10-year period.

It will deliver three to four of these power generation units each year, which will bring as much as $600 million in annual sales revenue each year, or about 6-7% of its total revenue for 2009, Shanghai Electric said.

Shares in Shanghai Electric, which has a market value of $16.96 billion, rose as much a 7.43% to HK$5.06 -- its highest since April 2008 -- before easing to HK$4.85 in mid-day trade.

The stock has surged about 40% this year, outperforming the 6% gain in the broader Hang Seng Index.

Shanghai Electric, led by Xu Jianguo, said it will sign the deal with Reliance’s Ambani later on Thursday, adding that the deal will help lift its market share in the Indian power-equipment market.

Shanghai Electric and Reliance Infrastructure already have a close working relationship, with the Chinese firm having supplied equipment to other power projects. The two also set up a $3 billion joint venture in 2008 to manufacture turbines and generators in India.

India, the world’s sixth-largest energy consumer, has set an ambitious target of lifting its generation capacity to 100,000 megawatts during (MW) 2012-17 and plans to spend $1 trillion on infrastructure during the period.

The country is expected to add only about 62,000 MW in the current five-year period, compared with the target of 78,000 MW.

About 84% of Shanghai Electric’s revenue came from China last year and just over 16% from overseas. The company posted on Wednesday a 33.2% rise in its third- quarter profit from a year earlier.

^^ Symbolism aside, what's most important is what we get out of all these visits for us!

I really don't think that its all about Symbolism as that will prove all these head of states foolish and we Indians dumb.

The phase of transition of a country from less important to more important is always suspicious for others and raise more pessimistic questions then optimistic views. Just like it happened to China in nineties.
Just to cut short, an economy growing as fast as 9% (even an year after a recession) and a big market of billion people cannot be mistakenly taken as a Joke. These guys now knew this well and that is why they are going to be here.

Under-construction projects in India top $100bn - The Times of India

MUMBAI: The total market value of under-construction projects in India has crossed the $100-billion (Rs 4.5 lakh crore) mark for the first time in 2010. Of this, Mumbai, the country's financial capital, where property prices are some of the highest in the world, has nearly a 40% chunk ($37 billion, or Rs 1.66 lakh crore). The under-construction projects include residential, commercial and retail space.

The findings are in the latest Real Estate Intelligence Service (REIS) report prepared by Jones Lang LaSalle Meghraj.

"India's top 100 developers are currently setting up 7.5-8 lakh apartments in the top seven metros - Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Pune and Hyderabad," said Abhishek Kiran Gupta, head of REIS.

"The market value of real estate under construction in India has increased from $69.4 billion in 2006-end to $101.3 billion in June 2010, which equals 8.2% of India's nominal GDP for 2009," the report said. The market value and costs of development have been estimated at prevalent property prices and costs of construction, considering the variance in asset classes and geographical locations, it added.

The residential component contributes 66% ($66.5 billion) of this $101.3 billion, while the rest is contributed to by commercial office and retail space combined. The premium segment comprises only 4% of the saleable area being developed, but to 24% of the market value. "While NCR- Delhi leads in terms of volume of residential properties being developed, Mumbai contributes a larger share to the market value," it said.

On the other hand, the market value of commercial office and retail under construction has remained range-bound during 2006-2010 due to the effect of an increase in construction activity offset by a fall in capital values. "However, the contribution of residential has amplified due to a confluence of increase in construction activity and rapid recovery of property prices," the report said.

The market value of commercial (office and retail) real estate under construction is $34.8 billion and commercial office space under development contributes to 74% of the estimated market value being developed in the commercial sector.

"As of 2Q10, Tier-I cities of Mumbai, NCR-Delhi and Bangalore contribute to 70% of the market value of under-construction commercial office space, while Tier II cities of Chennai, Pune, Hyderabad and Kolkata contribute to 21% of the pie. Other investment grade developments in Tier III cities contribute to a mere 9% of the pan-India market value being developed in India today."

According to the report, since 2007-08, a total foreign direct investment of $7.82 billion (over Rs 35,000 crore) has been put into housing and real estate in India.

I don't think if defense Buy/sale deals are only of defense significance. They are very much related to economy and industrial growth as well as geopolitical relationship to show the countries global clout and that is what this forum is talking about.
Anyways I was basically talking about Reliance deal with Shanghai Corp for India's rapidly growing power industry in the same post.
Cheers!!!

Delhi to have ultra modern city bus services
Delhi government has approved a cluster plan, modelled on the lines of services in cities like London and Paris to roll out new fleet of buses
Published on 11/01/2010 - 15:12:00 PM New Delhi: Big corporate houses are set to hit the city roads this month-end as the Delhi government Monday cleared four more clusters, paving the way for over 900 new swanky buses to join the city transport system within six months.

A cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday approved the four clusters and authorised the Transport Department to take follow-up action. The cabinet last November awarded work for cluster 1, paving way for the deployment of 232 buses.

Bidding process for cluster 1, comprising 32 routes, has been completed and the highest bidder StarBus of Spicejet Group will induct 232 buses in a phased manner till April 11, 2011.

"We have cleared four more clusters in southeast and southwest Delhi and two on the Ring Road. While cluster 2 will be operated by private company Indraprastha, a congregation of Blueline bus operators, three clusters will be operated by AB Spirits," Transport Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely told reporters after the cabinet meeting.

As per the cluster plan, modelled on the lines of services in cities like London and Paris, around 600 routes in the city have been divided into 17 clusters, reports IANS.

As per the government plan, as many as 4,400 buses under 17 clusters will join the nearly 6,500 DTC buses in the capital. A government affidavit in the high court pointed out that 11,000 buses are needed to meet the public transport needs of Delhi.

With a decision of the Supreme Court in 2008 to phase out the privately-owned and run Blueline buses, blamed for hundreds of deaths on city roads, the Delhi government initiated steps to do away with these buses and introduce the cluster system, leading to the entry of big corporate houses in city transport system.
