The country’s first Internet of Things lab will come up in Bangalore and three locations have already been short-listed for the facility: Electronics City, Airport Road and Silk Board. ITIR: the next big thing

Stating that Bangalore has added another feather to its IT cap by bringing the IT business event CeBIT to India for the first time, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said: “When the ITIR (IT Investment Region near Devanahalli on the outskirts of Bangalore) is complete in 2032, it is expected to bring in investments of over $20 billion, create 1.2 million direct jobs and 2.8 million indirect jobs.

Taurus India to invest $500 million in next 5 years(September,2014)

The Boston headquartered Taurus India, which recently got the cabinet approval for investing Rs 1,200 crore in the Technopark phase III project in Kerala, is eyeing projects worth 500 million US dollars in the next five years in India.

Describing India as a 'great market', Taurus India Managing Director, Ajay Prasad said "we are looking to invest $500 million in India in the next 5 years".

"We will be looking for investment avenues in other IT destinations of India including Bangalore", he said, adding, the company wants to create a similar iconic facility in Kerala by developing the Thiruvanathapuram property.

It proposes to invest about Rs 700-800 crore to develop about 24 lakh square feet space in the first phase of the Thiruvananthapuram project, which is expected to be started in the first half of next year.

'We are currently looking to break ground by April 2015', Ajay Prasad told reporters in a video conference press meet from Boston last night.

"The company will begin setting up its South Asia office in a month's time in Thiruvananthapuram. The MoU between Kerala government and Taurus is expected to be signed within three months. We are aiming to launch the project named `Taurus Downtown Technopark' in April 2015", Prasad said.

The unique selling point of the Thiruvananthapuram project would be an innovation-cum-incubation centre for which the company would team up with one of the top five technology firms in the world.

The project is structured on a 1:1 debt-to-equity ratio with the equity part fully capitalised by the parent company Taurus PE.

Asked if they had any apprehensions about investing in Kerala, which is known for its strong trade unions, he said unions are far stronger in US than in Kerala. 'We have chosen Kerala deliberately as there is lot of potential. Kerala accounts for only 1-1/2 per cent in IT space.

The Technopark project is expected to generate around 25,000 direct employment and 75,000 indirect jobs.

Taurus India is a fully owned subsidiary of Taurus Investment Holdings. Set up in 1976, Taurus is a Real Estate Private Equity Investment and Development company, which has entered diverse markets such as Israel, Argentina and Turkey.

Kerala Tourism holds Road Shows in Germany

In a bid to attract more visitors from Germany, Kerala Tourism conducted two road shows in Dusseldorf and Berlin early this week.
Held on the 3rd and 5th of this month, the two endeavours were Kerala Tourism's inaugural road shows in Germany this year.

The delegation was led by Tourism Director P.I. Sheikh Pareeth and included leading private players from the industry here.

"This is the second road show we are conducting in these cities to aggressively market the destinations and tap new markets," said Kerala's Tourism Minister A.P. Anil Kumar.
A total of 75 attendees from 40 leading German tour companies were at the show in Dusseldorf Feb 3. Consular (Commerce), India Consulate, Frankfurt, Surender Kumar, was the chief guest at the show in Dusseldorf, an international finance and trade centre.

"Germany is the third biggest market for Kerala in terms of tourist arrivals. As many as 77,698 tourist arrivals were recorded from there last year. As a highly growing market for Kerala, Germany has recorded a growth of 55 per cent in tourist arrivals in the last five years," said Pareeth.

The second road show held Feb 5 in Berlin had 110 attendees from 50 leading German tour companies.

The latest and much acclaimed campaign on Kerala's tourism, the Great Backwaters film, drew a huge response after it was screened at both the road shows.

The road shows also served as a platform for several trade interactions.

"These interactions, along with the availability of Tourist Visa on Arrival (TVoA) enabled with ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) to the German citizens are expected to bring in huge traffic from Germany to Kerala in the coming days," said Kerala Tourism secretary, G. Kamala Vardhana Rao.

In an effort to consolidate the trade network in Germany, Kerala will participate and showcase Kerala's 'Great Backwaters' and ensure the maximum reach in the upcoming Internationale Tourismus-Borse Berlin (ITB) Berlin, the World's biggest tourism trade fair to be held in March.
