I dont think a off road challenge fits into "India developing" scheme of things. There is a 'made in India vehicles' section you may want to consider

Modify your thinking :enjoy: !

Largest small car hub: India to overtake Japan
India aims to become the small car hub of the world by dethroning Japan, the biggest maker of compact cars, a majority of which is consumed domestically.

Last year, it had pipped Brazil to become the second-largest producer of such cars.

30detroit1.jpg

While Japan produced 3.4 million small cars between January and December in 2009, India manufactured 1.48 million units in the same period.

According to a top official from Tata Motors, the country's biggest vehicle maker, India would certainly become the biggest manufacturer of compact, fuel-efficient cars, as there is a growing demand for such versatile cars worldwide.

Pretty much all the small car makers like VW, Fiat, Ford, Toyota, Honda, Peugeot Citroen, Renault-Nissan, Suzuki are expanding or putting down long haul, $ Billion investments. I wish Tier II Co.'s from Brazil, Malaysia, Iran, Turkey or Russia and others also join in.

Above has existed for 10-25 yrs. in narrow pockets, proven profit driven model, ready for mass roll-out immediately if not sooner.

Point to note, these are among the Top 5 Co.'s and prices are moderating to $ 200,000-250,000. Above are the best of breed. Tier II Co.'s like below, offer similar stuff.
A competitive professional city side couple, with a little help from either parents or 2-3 Global postings can put down a 10-20 yr. mortgage on a 2 BHK. Middle-to-Upper middle class. IT types, engineers, doctors, journos, media types, forces types, govt. officers can afford above with some help.

Eros Sampoornam
Tier II Co. in Delhi NCR's Noida Extention, more amenable pricing.

But the real action is Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kochi, Navi Mumbai, Noida-Gr. Noida, Amdavad and other Tier II cities where prices and incomes have found an organic, natural yet aspirational balance.

Bangalore, $ 100,000 range
Again, below are Top 10 type

Indian mega-cities have dozens of residential and 1/2 dozen IT and Commerce places like above. I can see it scale up to 25 and a dozen projects immediately. Roads here are done, links, metro, rail and airport projects coming up. Mega-cities high speed rail next.
