NEW DELHI: China has predicted "a golden period" for relations with India, with a top official saying Beijing was "fully committed to developing long-term friendship" with New Delhi.

Chinese State Councillor Dai Bingguo, said to be close to Chinese President Hu Jintao, wrote in an article in The Hindu Monday: "While working hard to develop itself, China is fully committed to developing long-term friendship and cooperation with India. It is our genuine hope that India will enjoy prosperity and its people, happiness.

"There does not exist such a thing as China's attempt to 'attack India' or 'suppress India's development'. China will remain committed to the path of peaceful development," he wrote.

Underlining the need for closer ties with India, Dai said: "We speak with one voice and enjoy increasingly closer coordination and collaboration in multilateral mechanisms and in tackling global challenges."

The influential Chinese politician and diplomat also rejected that his country had rivalry with India.

"We need to view each other's development in a positive light and regard each other as major partners and friends, not rivals. We always need to be each other's good neighbour, good friend and good partner," he said.

"What we face is a golden period to grow China-India relations. The world has enough space for China and India to achieve common development, as there are so many areas for us to work together," he said.

Dai's comments came against the backdrop of recent discordant notes in bilateral ties.

Problem is that there are overly nationalist Chinese out there who ll create troubles in Sino-Indian relations.

They should simply stop this "Historic Territories" claim, which they won't,:disagree: 'cause having a conflict like situation is there way of staying in lame light i guess.

nationalist chinese? are you talking about Republic of china (Which is in Taiwan now)? PRC is not peacefull china, Infact Communists are not peaceful at all. Haven't you seen what they did to KolKata?? (Kolkata was No1 metro city of India, now it is No1 Slum of India). quarter of India is suffering thru communism plague.

India china relation will come on track only when China will merge with Taiwan under RoC umbrella. Insha-allah that will happen. Communism died in Russia,West bengal. It will die in china.. And a strong and peaceful china will lead the world...

Both China and India seems to be realizing that their main priority is to take care of their vast population and help them grow economically instead of getting bogged down over rough barren territories of Himalayas. Ther is more to gain and less to lose by sorting their differences through dialogue rather then whipping up nationalistic sentiments and rhetoric in media .

Wish Indo-pak disputes also are proceeded in the same way !

if this currently is golden period god knows what will worse period look like

If you exclude the Hindu chini bhai bhai and panchasheel Nehruvian times of Indo China relations , this certainly is the most peaceful times that we have had with China ,... Bilateral trade is at its highest levels though skewed in chinas favour , there is lot of positives to look forward to in terms of India china relations

Oh yeah,
and that's why they are opposed to India becoming a permanent member in UNSC.

China need not support to every Indian aspiration (UNSC etc) and neither do India need to support Chinese claims on all issues (like South china sea etc) yet India and china can remain in peaceful coexistence without causing any trouble to each other .

You will thank them for that in the coming years.India gaining admission as a permanent member in the UNSC will be a headache for us far beyond our aspirations or reach. Then again, anything remotely resembling bureaucracy is instantly irresistible for our netakind.

china claiming arunachal pradesh, we claim it as our integral part so how actually this issue gonna resolve???:undecided:

And how many nations in the world believe china's official slogan about it's "peaceful" rise.

The CPC govt is just about as peaceful as Nazi germany was.

Yes, they should stop interfering in Arunachal Pradesh during state elections and stop considering as a part of China and stop crap of issuing stapled visa for our nationals.

They claim everything based on historical boundaries which is far from international norms today !!!
However india and china must have peacefull relationship with good trade and both sides are talking peace which which be disappointment to some (only some not all) people across the western border who expect a chinese conflict with india soon !!

So based on the notorious mcmahon line random drawn there is international norm???

Your claim is being magnified...
During the negotiations they extra included only the area of tawang which is a few km from chinese border...
But now u claim the whole state based on history...
Is this justified?

In a way I agree with you. First let the political leadership of India develop something called a backbone and then we can speak of permanent UNSC seat , the membership of that means taking some hard cold decisions which Indian leadership is unable to do so.
