Kishtwar, Dec 5: An idol was stolen by some unknown persons from a temple in district Kishtwar. The black-stone idol worth over crores of rupees in the international market, was stolen from a temple known as Parna in Chatroo tehsil of Kishtwar district, late Thursday.
Sources told Greater Kashmir that some unidentified persons entered into the unguarded temple having strong following in the area and stole the idol, which is said to the oldest.
Every year thousands of people visit the temple in the month of July. The idol is of Asht-Dasht bhuja (Mata with eighteen arms).
Meanwhile, during the Friday payers, Imam of Jamia Masjid Kishtwar, Farooq Ahmed also condemned the theft and demanded stern action against the culprit. Dharam Sabha has given a call for Kishtwar bandh on Saturday.
