Haq's Musings: E-Commerce: Cow Dung Sales Hot on Amazon and eBay in India

Cow patties -- cow poop mixed with hay and dried in the sun, made mainly by Indian women in rural area -- are among the hottest selling items by online retailers includingAmazon and eBay in India, according to media reports. Some retailers are offering discounts for large orders and offering free gift wrapping.

Cow dung has a special spiritual significance in Hindu religion. The cows in India do not eat non-vegetarian items and only eats grass or grains which makes cow dung holy and acceptable. In a lot of pujas (worship rituals), both dried and fresh cow dung is used. From Govardhan Puja to havans, cow dung is used during pujas.

In many spiritual "yagnas", the fire is lit using dried cow dung and desi ghee (clarified butter). It is believed that burning cow dung with ghee is one of the best ways to purify the home, according to BoldSky.com.

In addition, cow dung is the most widely used fuel in India for heating and cooking in rural India. However, the online orders are coming mostly from cities where it would be difficult to buy dung cakes. The cakes are sold in packages that contain two to eight pieces weighing 200 grams (7 ounces) each. Prices range from 100 to 400 rupees ($1.50 to $6) per package.

Hindus do not eat beef but cow urine and cow dung are considered sacred. Urine is believed to be beneficial by Hindus as both a beverage and used for purification of buildings. American newspaper USA Today published a story earlier this year about a urine bottling plant in Haridwar, India. A recent Times of India report said cow urine was used by a group of Hindu activists for cleaning some government buildings.

Online sales of cow dung offer a uniquely Indian blend of ancient Hindu culture and modern information technology being embraced in the country. Rise of Hindu Nationalists to power under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given renewed impetus to total Hinduization of India.

Cow dung, which is usually a dark magenta colour (usually combined with soiled bedding and urine), is often used as manure (agricultural fertilizer). If not recycled into the soil by species such as earthworms and dung beetles, cow dung can dry out and remain on the pasture, creating an area of grazing land which is unpalatable to livestock.

In many parts of the developing world, and in the past in mountain regions of Europe, caked and dried cow dung is used as fuel.

Dung may also be collected and used to produce biogas to generate electricity and heat. The gas is rich in methane and is used in rural areas of India and Pakistan and elsewhere to provide a renewable and stable source of electricity.

@gau8av
Cow dung also eaten by Hindus as

Panchagavya
Panchagavya
or
panchakavyam is a concoction prepared by mixing five products of cow. The three direct constituents are cow dung, urine, and milk; the two derived products are curd and ghee. These are mixed in proper ratio and then allowed to ferment. Panchamrita is a similar mixture that replaces dung and urine with honey and sugar. The mixture which is made using yeast as a fermenter, bananas, groundnut cake, and the water of tender coconut, is a potent organic pesticide and growth promoter. The Sanskrit word Panchagavya means "mixture of five cow products," and it has been used in traditional Indian rituals throughout history. It is also called cowpathy treatment based on products obtained from cows used inAyurvedic medicine and of religious significance for Hindus. Panchgavya is also used as fertilizers and pesticides in agricultural operations.[1][2]

The quality standards of Panchagavya are mentioned in Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India. CSIR has obtained some patents regarding Panchagavya.[3]

Preparation[edit]
Panchagavya consists of nine products viz. cow dung, cow urine, milk, curd, jaggery, ghee, banana, tender coconut, and water.[4] The cow dung and ghee are thoroughly mixed in the morning and evening, and kept for 3 days. After setting, it is mixed regularly for another 15 days, and then added to the other ingredients, and left to sit for another 30 days. Panchagavya is stored in a wide-mouthed earthen pot or concrete tank in open. Sufficient shade is usually provided. It is sometimes diluted before use.

Few studies have been performed to test the efficacy of Panchagavya as a medical intervention.[5] Those studies which have been done have largely been of low quality.[5] Studies concerning ingesting individual components of Panchagavya, such as cow urine, have shown no positive benefit, and significant side effects, including convulsion, depressed respiration, and death.[6] Cow's urine can also be a source of harmful bacteria and infectious diseases, including leptospirosis[7]

Usage[edit]
As a Prasad in temples [8]
A common usage is as a fertilizer and pesticide.[1][2] Seeds can be treated with panchagavya. This was found useful in rhizome of turmeric, ginger and sugarcane and they yielded more.[9] Helps in plant growth and immunity.[10]
The medicinal usage of panchagavya, particularly cow urine, is practiced in Ayurveda. Proponents claim that cow urine therapy is capable of curing several diseases, including certain types of cancer, although these claims have no scientific backing.[11][12] In fact, studies concerning ingesting individual components of Panchagavya, such as cow urine, have shown no positive benefit, and significant side effects, including convulsion, depressed respiration, and death.[6] Cow's urine can also be a source of harmful bacteria and infectious diseases, including leptospirosis[7]
Proponents claim it is an antibiotic growth promoter in the broiler diet, capable of increasing the growth of plankton for fish feed,[13][14] the production of milk in cows, the weight of pigs, and the egg laying capacity of poultry chicken.[15][16]
It is sometimes used as a base in cosmetic products.

@RiazHaq if and when somebody you know or God forbid your family is ever afflicted with rheumatoid arthritis, do message me.

And its not just Hindus, Muslims and Christians who are diagnosed with the above follow a course of treatment in Ayurved which uses the constituents you make fun off. And I can personally attest a family member who has got better by following the course for treatment. The only other way is to use HCQS followed by metatrixate.

And if you still are not convinced, I would suggest you look at the research conducted for RA by western researchers in Ayurved.

Coming to the topic. So what, if its sold online? The way I see, there is demand and supply. But, your article and the logic sound like this. Muslims in Pakistan join terrorist organisations. Pakistan is a sh!thole.

Overall mortality rate: India 7.32 vs Pakistan 6.49

The World Factbook
Having a higher death rate means the population is aging, in our case, it means our population growth rate decreasing, which is good.

Germany is 11.5
Japan is 9.5
Bangladesh is 5.6

You all are more close to Bangladesh which has a rapidly growing population.

I always buy charcoal for by barbeque. Maybe I will try dry cowdung patties this time. Renewable alternatives are better than depleting the natural resources.

You know how mad cow disease originated. In fact Rudolf Steiner predicted that in 1920's.

By: Rudolf Steiner
"...Some animals are simply gentle vegetarian beings. Cows, for example, eat no meat. Neither are horses keen on meat. An animal not only absorbs food but also constantly sheds what is inside its body. Birds molt, deer drop their antlers. You cut your nails and they grow back. What appears outwardly so visible is part of a continuous process. We constantly shed our skin. In about seven to eight years, our entire bodies are shed and replaced with new ones. This is also the case with animals.

Consider a cow or an ox. After some years the flesh within it has been entirely replaced and new flesh is made. From what did this flesh originate, however? The ox itself has produced it from plant substances. Its body is therefore capable of producing meat from plants. Now you can cook cabbage for as long as you like, but you won't turn it into meat! The animal accomplishes it, but to do so forces must first be present in the body. With all our technological forces we have none by which we can simply produce meat from plants.

Now imagine that an ox suddenly decided it was too tiresome to graze and nibble at plants, that it would let another animal eat them and do the work for it, and then it would eat the animal. What would happen if the ox were to eat meat directly instead of plants? It would leave the forces unused that can produce the flesh in him. Think of the tremendous amount of energy that is lost if machines in a factory are all turned on without producing anything. There is a tremendous loss of energy. But the unused energy in the ox's body cannot simply be lost, so the ox is finally filled with it, and this pent-up force does something in him other than produce flesh from plant substances. It produces waste products, harmful substances such as uric acid and urates.

Now urates have specific effects expressed in a particular affinity for the nervous system and the brain. The result is that if an ox were to consume meat directly, large amounts of urates would be secreted; they would enter the brain, and the ox would go crazy. If an experiment could be made in which a herd of oxen were fed pigeons it would produce a completely mad herd of oxen. In spite of the gentleness of the pigeons, the oxen would go mad, would turn into terribly wild, furious creatures..."
