Upgrade all of these and deploy at the forward posts along the Pakistan and China borders:sniper:

This is a pretty good upgrade from the looks of it but we all know beauty is only skin deep. What's the stats on the gun?

It already has lost its charm to our very own indigenous Anti Aircraft Solutions. Military Forces around the globe are moving away from this , while on the other hand our country is upgrading such systems. I don't deny that it may still have its relevance in the war doctrine we maintain, but going by our ambition to become a fully network centric Armed Forces, this may not fit into it.

The prime motive of a successful air defense is to detect a hostile aircraft and to destroy them. An object when moving in a three-dimensional space, the projectile must not just match the three coordinates, but also hit at the time the target is at that position. This either requires Guidance or Proper usage of conventional methods and SOP's of World War Era.

Its always not the Weapon that changes the course of War, its where the weapon is; that matters.

The L70s may have lost its charm, but AA guns will never loose its charm IMHO, the good old systems can always be depended on. Not prone to jamming, easily transportable and operated, cheap and effective at low altitudes. Combined with missiles and aircrafts, AA guns will be a devastating for bandits.

Some weapons simply never get old, AA guns are one among those. No matter whatever sophisticated gun you carry, a knife will always be with you.

We have the technology to develop good AA systems, with some effort we con build some bang for the buck systems instead for searching all over the world.

Existing technology:
1.OFB having the capability to build the l-70,gsh-23.
2.L&T,TATA have ballistic computers,range finders,thermal imagers ,auto trackers,electric/hydraulic drives.
3.Platform to mount Super stallion,TATA HMV.

Technology to be built:
1.Belt feed system, possibly linkless.
2.An appropriate breech.
3.Cooling for barrels .

We aren't looking for foreign AA systems if I am not wrong. There were reports of BEL upgrading Shilka systems and Army rejecting them, looking forward to replacing them.

Correction: Army is satisfied with the BEL Schilka upgrade, the bulk production is under progress. 48 systems of the 90 are being upgraded in the first phase.
