Not really. It depends on your environment, position, power vis a vis your adversary and your situation in that particular period of time.
NATO was formed solely due to the threat the Soviet Union and its communist ideology posed to Europe . European countries started joining more and more when they realised they couldn't face the Soviet threat on their own. So they joined to have protection from them and stop Soviet agents infiltrating their institutions and even corridors of power(especially with communist movements in Europe financed and supported by the Soviets). Why do you think even Turkey joined? It was because they faced a real threat against the Soviet Union and they stood no chance if Soviets ever invaded part of their territory so they needed western support and protection or dissuassion against the Soviet Union.Same reason Pakistan allied itself with the US to fade off any threat from India at the time and the Soviets and their ideology in Pakistan, especially after installing a Soviet commie puppet regime in Afghanistan.
So it was a rational decision which was in their national interests to do so. The middle east is in a different geopolitical situation. So the two can't be compared to be honest.

Are you saying there won't be terrible wars anymore because of 'social media'? Syrian and Yemeni wars have caused deaths of half million each and still are continuing. Please don't spin my post. It's all relative. You and that other guy I referenced continue to bring up casualties from the previous wars, trying to say what's happening in Gaza is not so high casualties. Firstly, you should take into consideration Gaza's MUCH smaller population than those countries' casualties. Secondly, yes, modern world's sensibilities AND intense media focus on anything do with the 'Holy Land' makes it harder to exact the casualties like in the wars of other regions, whether of present or past.
It is all relative otherwise why not start comparing with the piles of skulls in Genghis Khan's conquests??

Palestinians like Lebanese will kill Israeli military personnel as many as they can. While Hezbollah plays its role in the north, Hezbollah will keep IDF stretched and destracted.

Syria is on its knees, they are being threatened by Israel-USA-NATO axis of evil. It would be a miracle to keep Syria altogether.
