What's new

Floods in Pakistan

More then 1% GDP lost

Millions of Gallons of water lost in village areas
  • Usable for Crops
  • Usable for feeding live stock (Cows, Goats, Chickens, Horses, Donkeys)
  • Usable water lost that could feed humans keep them refreshed
  • New land being irrigated (due to water being available)
Overall effect on GDP (15%)

Irrigation potential for Land in Baluchistan or other areas via canals and lakes
Potential lost GDP 10%)

  • Million of Gallons of drinkable water lost effecting cities forcing people to buy water
  • Electricity creation potential lost another 4% impact on GDP
  • Lack of electricity effecting Industries (5% impact on economy)
We are really looking at 20-25% impact on Pakistani Economy due to wastage of water and lack of KBD

Infrastructure damage (Bridges, Roads, Houses , Buildings ) , 5% extra impact

I must say if we fixed the KBD , decision we could yield 20-30 Billion extra end of each year

Nature has come back to haunt with vengeance and why not the man destroyed all the natural and ecological cycles of nature by massive deforestation and specially the reserved areas on river bank has been exploited too

Yar Kala Bagh Dam is definitely important but not the end of the world...Chalo if not Kala Bagh then go for other sites...
we are obsessed with 2 scenarios.. Biggest or largest in the world or at least south asia.. and second one is the elections after 5 years decide what you do and where you spend.
This or the previous governments could have started a few dozen small dams.. Potohar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Chakwal, Jehlum districts alone can hold a dozen small reservoirs at the very least. Same goes for the 5 / 6 dams that were supposed to be constructed in Balochistan to control and then use the rain water later.

same goes for Katzara / Skardu dam. they can increase the life of Mangla by 2 to 3 decades as they will stop the sediment from coming downstream. it is only then that we can start dredging to recover some of the lost storage capacity of Mangla (due to sedimentation). Yet nothing is being done...

Metro bana lou, road bana lou, motorway bana lou... with no action for dams and transmission lines. The sum spent on 3 metro buses (though important.. needed) could have been deferred by 5-6 years and we could have constructed a dozen small dams and initiated 1 or 2 mega ones.
Loss would be much larger as Cotton/Rice crops have taken a major hit. In areas without flood situation, the pests have destroyed cotton. Expect more drop in exports. What is worse that emperors of jati umrah are building a metro in Multan with estimated cost of over 100 Billion including re carpeting of already well built roads :hitwall: These are the matters where you need leaders who focus on next generations not on next election. No body is going to praise a canal in Arifwala but by building a four lane road, the MPA can put hoardings of "Airport jesi sarak" with pictures of transplanted tinds.
