EXPLORING KASHGAR OLD TOWN IN XINJIANG AND LOCAL FOOD, Aug 29, 2022

Aug 29, 2022 Today I walk the streets of old Kashgar, part of the old silk road, near the borders of Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Pakistan. Nice to see some old culture, but also modern vibrant commerce.

If you just like to travel without ulterior motives like western reporters seeing everything in Xinjiang from a dog's eye level, you could really have a very enjoyable traveling experience in Xinjiang, beautiful, safe, peaceful, clean, prosperous, diverse, exotic, delicious cuisines

Korean lady in Kashgar old town
Check out what Korean lady finds about Xinjiang and Uighur city Kashgar this summer, true Xinjiang from a foreign visitor , just to explore but with no evil intentions.

Young couple, ( husband Chinese and wife Korean ) visit Xinjiang Kashgar old town.( check out how beautiful Kashgar city is after "destruction" (renovation) at summer night.
The Korean lady asks a little girl whether she heard a country called Republic of Korea, the little girl shakes her head. Korean lady was very disappointed...

Later on, the young Chinese and Korean couple met the older sisters of these little kids, the older sisters are teenagers and they are so suprised that the lady is actually a Korean, unlike their little brothers, the teenager girls know Korea very well and love Korean music and TV shows, the teen girls can even speak Korean , they speak in Korean " How are you, I m Chinese". This makes this Korean lady very very happy.

I thought only Beijing and Shanghai can have these many people, but wait a sec... aren't these people supposed to be locked up in concentration camps based on western media?

Beautiful Kashgar old town, Kashgar oldtown has a history of several hundred years, but this oldtown is a new rebuilt one, cause everything in old one was all built by mud and can't withstand earthquakes, Kashgar is an earthquake active zone and narrow alleys wouldn't allow ambulances and fire trucks in so the whole old town was basically a death trap, old old town also didn't have sewage and running water system so it can easily turn into a garbage dump.

The government invested billions of dollars to have the whole old town rebuilt, every single house was torn down and rebuilt largely based on the previous designs, but with concrete and steel, hooked up with all modern supporting facilities, now every house in the new old town is earthquake resistant. To keep the old architecture style, all houses are painted with earthy color, so from the outside new old town very much resembles the old old town, but everything inside was changed.

Although new old town alleys had been widened so ambulances and firetrucks can go in, they are still not wide enough to allow all cars in, so passanger cars are not allowed in the old town, locals living in the old town mostly use scooters to get around.

Kashgar is actually a less developed city comparing to a dozen of other Xinjiang cities, the west is afraid of people visiting Xinjiang and that's why they pull out all stops trying to stop peole from going there, almost all foreigners who did visit Xinjiang personally all talk fondly about Xinjiang and are amazed by how developed this region is, but from main stream western media, you'll never have a chance to learn this, the real Xinjiang. Safe, peaceful, zero terrorism, booming and prosperous, but this is exactly what the west hates the most, they are hell bent to turn Xinjiang into the next door Afghanistan, choas, violence, despair and poverty.

Google translation from Taiwan news channel : Kashgar old town rebuild project

"Garbage disposal depends on blown by the wind, sewage treatment depends on evaporation, tap water is hung on the wall, and climb up to the roof to relieve yourself." It is hard to imagine that the living conditions of the ancient city in the past were actually very poor, and from the perspective of seismology, the quaint buildings are actually precarious buildings, and the streets are narrow, the widest point is only 6 meters, and the narrowest point is 1.5 meters. It is difficult for vehicles to pass, and rescue and evacuation are difficult to implement.

The government decided to carry out "old city reconstruction", especially after the Wenchuan earthquake in 2008, "old city reconstruction" was put on the agenda, and the "Comprehensive Treatment Project Plan for the Reconstruction of Dilapidated and Old Buildings in the Old City of Kashgar" was approved in 2010.

Where does the money come from? According to the guide of the ancient city, the old city renovation project is subsidized by the state with 2 billion yuan (RMB, the same below, about NT$8.8 billion), and the Xinjiang Autonomous Region has raised 1 billion yuan. The total investment exceeds 7 billion yuan (about NT$30.8 billion).

The data shows that since 2010, the renovation of 49,083 households and 5.07 million square meters of dilapidated and old houses in the old city has been completed; the construction of 4,622 sets of 240,300 square meters of public employment relocation houses has been completed, and the water, heating, electricity and gas of 28 areas have been simultaneously improved. road and other internal supporting infrastructure. In 2015, the renovation of dilapidated and old houses in the core area and the protection of street style and features were announced to be completed.

The guide pointed out that the biggest highlight of the renovation process was "one design for one house". After experts gave suggestions on earthquake resistance, they tried to absorb the opinions of the house owners as much as possible, and finally formed new houses with different characteristics.

Western media's report on Kashgar old town rebuild project in 2011, see what the bleak future they projected for the local oldtown dwellers 10 years ago and what really happened for the locals in reality today.

The report said that the reason why China was tearing down this centuries old town was because China believed this old town was a hotbed for terrorist activities. Western media never cares about if locals were all buried and killed by an earthquake for all those old houses were built by nothing but mud. Kashgar is located in a very active earthquake zone, this so called oldtown houses wise is actually not very old, a massive earthquake happened in 1902 bascially collapsed every house in the old town.
