Erdoğan not happy with India-Middle East-Europe Corridor

Turkey needs not worry. This route is suboptimal compared to the existing shipping route through the Suez.

I believe Indians know that too, they are just playing along with the bonesaw guy. That guy really wants to do something for his country's future but comes up with stupid ideas. This is another stupid idea along the lines of The Line city.

I have found an actual feasibility study for the Red-Med project which goes from the Mediteranean by rail to Eilat.

It shows a ~300% increase in cost over the cost of simply using the Suez Canal.

The much longer route for IMEC would most likely take much longer as well as sport a cost that is more than 300% compared to simply using the Suez canal.

It's pretty clear that this entire dog and pony show is simply the requirement to get the Saudi rail system connected to the Israeli rail system.

The transshipment fantasy is to provide cover to U.S. crazies that would want to block it if it had the word "China" mentioned anywhere.
Most of the railway infrastructure is already present. All that needs to be done is to connect few patches in Jordan. Now the cost of transportstion via this route vs Suez will only be known once the mass transportation starts. Also, its a complement to the suez route, not a replacement. Moreover, as the Indian & ASEAN economy grows Suez would grow more congested, hence more waiting time for the ships. All this adds to the cost. So, the financial viability of the project can not be simply discarded.

Saudis export oil. They can pipelines via Israel to send it to Europe

President Erdogan unilaterally decided a few years ago that Turkey owned a lot of the Eastern Mediterranean as its Maritime EEZ. Right up to where his EEZ met that of Libya's. Effectively cutting off any pipeline or similar project unless it met his approval.

Of course there is a very long list of countries that absolutely disagree with his delusions. However his mercurial temperament does add an extra element of risk for anyone contemplating a pipeline / trade corridor / electricity link or whatever, given that the Turkish navy is not exactly the smallest in the region.

There is a 3-4 day waiting period for the ships to pass through Suez on a good day, as only 50 vessels make it through everyday and it takes 12-18 hours to cross that narrow corridor. With increasing trade volume, there is a possibility of a bottleneck forming in coming months. Given that India will not join Chinese led BRI, this was our only alternative.

Do I hear an opportunity to sell some super sonic anti-ship missile with 300 km range?

Time is not such a big consideration in international bulk shipping. Time saving of 3-4 days, even a week, who really cares, we are talking about millions of tons of cargo that move between nations, cost efficiency is the only consideration and nothing is more cost effective than bulk ocean going carriers.

But if you guys think it will be beneficial for you, go for it. It's not like you are replacing your ocean going cargo with this. So, if this dosen't work out, the other normal option is open anyway.

Instead of going through the suez canal this corridor will take days longer, be more expensive, and end up in a Chinese owned port anyway.

This is just a Saudi attempt to make global trade revovle around them and Pajeets going "Phul Sapport saar"
Hehe... Turkey man clucking loudly

India can use Lebanese port for trade with Europe if east of Mediterranean is the case.

Islamic world will not tolerate Israeli existence for sure, it will always be a problematic route for India.

Which ever route Indian think tanks may consider, they should think about this very important fact too.

Arabs esp Emiratis tried to develop a sea route to trade with Israelis and it ended up with Israeli ships being bombed and burnt before reaching UAE ports.

Instead of looking for trouble under US leadership, other ports exists already.

The US proposed route is ridiculous and the reason why Arab monarchs didn't point to it is that they have no choice when it comes to US orders. But India as an economic giant, has to decide freely.

India-Pakistan-Iran-Syria-Iraq-Lebanon
or
India-Pakistan-Iran-Turkey-Europe

The second option doesn't force Indians to jump from ships onto trains which doubles the cost of trade.

Problem would be getting the westernized Pakistani decision makers (army) in line with this axis. Which is good for peace and stability of this region.

That's an American idea. It ends in Israeli port.

That's an American idea. It ends in Israeli port.

The main part of this route is Israel-Jordan-Saudi Arabia-UAE connectivity ......... Rest is only top-ups.

why has to pass by Israel? i don t know why saudis are interested in this project

You have Egypt to connect to Greece by sea, no need for Israel in this route.

Turks can say whatever, not their issue.
