KANDAHAR: An elite Afghan soldier shot dead an American mentor and his translator at a US base, Afghan officials said on Friday, in the first rogue shooting blamed on the country’s new and closely vetted special forces.

The soldier opened fire at an American military base on Wednesday in Shah Wali Kot district, in volatile Kandahar province, said General Abdul Hamid, the commander of Afghan army forces in the Taliban’s southern heartland.

“The shooting took place after a verbal conflict where the Afghan special forces soldier opened fire and killed an American special forces member and his translator,” Hamid told Reuters.

The latest shooting will be of grave concern to both sides.

Elite Afghan soldier kills US special forces

US never can win Afghan's heart. It is clear message that Afghan doesn’t like NATO troops in their country.

^ So pre partition, if a sub continent soldier killed a white british army officer, it was wrong? Than the whole war of independance, 1847 was wrong? Don't forget, these foreign soldiers weren't invited here.

Obviously. Why would he become a soldier for the enemy in the first place.

In any case, what was this spat about?

We have only American word to go by this, since they shot down the alleged attacker too. Who knows who really started it.

In recent weeks there has been so much killing of Afghans by the US which goes unreported. They are going village to village and shooting indiscriminately. Even if they get the whiff of a Taliban they don't go there directly, they fire mortar rounds from far away and when you raise these issues they will say they take great care in not killing civilians but sometimes mistakes happen.

What care can you take with mortar rounds?

Afghans should take control, they can't let foreign forces operate in their territory.

There was a heated argument that took place and in rage he shot him. Not because he doesn't like or despise Americans. Many such rage incidents happen sadly around the world even within Armies where a highly tense and dangerous environment for prolonged period, frustrates soldiers.

This includes armies like yours, mine and your new friend's in the region. Some reveal the news, some don't.

Oh and BTW, they hate you as well. So stop weaving dreams about returning there.

I could realistically see the possibility of an argument where the senior soldier had his translator say something offensive. Without proper culture sensitivity training, things can go wrong with the local people. The difference between American and Afghan culture is of a big gap.

No Afghan's Could not forget about what they Did to Your country....If there is no US forces in your country you will not live with peace ...always you are under the Taliban ...you guys fear to sleep in peacefully...

and US helping you in lot of ways In commerce ECONOMIC AND arms ALSO....

Thank you is not good to forget Afghans

RIP to the deceased. I wonder what kind of verbal conflict would inflict the Afghan soldier to kill the American soldier and his translator.

First we are not willing to return back there. You should keep your conservative and odium comment with yourself. You even don't know what Afghan people want or not. There are only retarded India centric farsiwans who have hate for Pakistan in government or in public. Overall Afghan attitude toward coalition forces clear from news in every next day.

Frankly even if anyone tells an Afghan to get off his way un-politely the response would be a 'punch' :D but may be this US solider used the 'F' word which took his life but still there is a possibility of wrong interpretation by the translator

No, buddy Farsiwans loves Pakistan, check Khurasanian's lovely topic :D

who said we are dreaming to return there?
We are genuinly worried about Afghanistan's situation because Pakistan's future is connected to afghanistan's progress.
If a bad incident happen in afghanistan, we can feel its effects in Pakistan. A peaceful Afghanistan is very much in favor of my country.
PPL said we supported taliban govt. yes, we did, bcz they never allowed anybody to use afghan soil against pakistan.
Just put India or Afghanistan in Pakistan's place, are u not going to support a neighbouring govt if that govt is in friendly terms with u?
If people of Afghanistan didn't like their govt then, they were the one who suppose to stand up against them not Pakistan.
Similarly, We Pakistanies hate our present govt of PPP but, US supports them. Is this US duty to care about our emotion. No, they will think about the interest of their ppl first. Its we the Pakistanies who have to save our interest and have the force to change this govt.
Common people of Pakistan can ridicule the taliban's action against afghan people but, fortunatley or unfortunatly states never make decision based on emotions.

Now that's very sweet of you to say but honestly speaking, if you had an ounce of such positive intentions, Afghanistan won't have been in such a dilapidated state in the first place. Your very involvement in Afghan war that was not yours brought so much destruction to that country which continues to this day.

They never allowed Afghanistan to have their own voice. That's what matters. Afghanistan became your lackey in the region, pandering to the whims of your generals. NO one was against you ever from outside the region. The USSR came there because the Government of Afghanistan invited them to get rid of your tamed pets that were creating problem in the state.

If you were trying to "prevent USSR from taking over Afghanistan", you're totally mistaken because Afghanistan was a die-hard Soviet ally in the first place.

This is why Afghans hate your meddling in their country. They find you as a hindrance to their independent mind. Bangladesh has relations with the Chinese too. Do you see us inventing radicalized loonies who bomb their country and destroy them from inside? No.

This paranoia that the world is against Pakistan is the reason why you've gotten into such a position in such place. Stop this thinking. No one is after you as long as you don't meddle in others' businesses.

Let's see how many political or physical battled you're involved in:

- Us. for a matter that doesn't pertain to you since day one.
- Russia. Soviet war that has to this date put their underbelly in trouble.
- Israel. No borders or disputes with them, but continued political antagonism against them.
- United States + NATO, playing double agent and using Taliban against them despite they've nothing to do with you directly.

All these wars are none of your business and still you meddle with them. And then you think that you're being marked by every second country.

Just put India or Afghanistan in Pakistan's place, are u not going to support a neighbouring govt if that govt is in friendly terms with u?

Support? Your "support" to Afghanistan sent them 200 years back. From a modern and peaceful state in 60s and 70s to the madhouse today. You brought this to them.

If people of Afghanistan didn't like their govt then, they were the one who suppose to stand up against them not Pakistan.

Only a tiny section of radicals hated the Najibullah regime and if you had not meddled bringing NATO in, this danger of radical jihadis would have been finished off by USSR. But you wanted to merge Afghanistan with yourself didn't you? Now see what you've done... put the whole damn region in danger.

Common people of Pakistan can ridicule the taliban's action against afghan people but, fortunatley or unfortunatly states never make decision based on emotions.

Very right. Which is what your generals don't understand when dealing with us or pretty much the larger world. They've got public opinions to worship some or the other benefactor in your country for the last 60+ years. Earlier it was US and now it is China. This gives them popularity and makes them legitimate rulers even though they're not doing anything other than making the military stronger than civilian government.

Why is it that you people see the planet in black and white without seeing your own country's issues?
