Quake jolts northwest Pakistan: seismologists
Updated at: 0436 PST, Friday, December 10, 2010
ISLAMABAD: A moderate earthquake of 5.2 magnitude jolted Pakistan near the border with Afghanistan on Friday, seismologists said.
The quake struck at 4:17 am (2317 GMT Thursday) with its epicentre 82 kilometres (51 miles) west-southwest of Dera Ismail Khan, at a depth of just 10 kilometres, the United States Geological Survey said.
Pakistan was hit by a 7.6-magnitude earthquake on October 8, 2005 that killed more than 73,000 people and left about 3.5 million homeless, mainly in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
