Good question -- I'd guess Afghanistan or possibly India

I think a lot of Afghan nobility kinda skipped over Pakistan -- at most they drove through it to India.

Like the elder Karzai brothers used to work as waiters in a restaurant in the US when they feld Afghanistan (Maryland/Baltimore) and send Karzai ($40? was it) per month to send him to school in Shimla India.

Their father, Abdul Ahad Karzai, was a deputy speaker in the Afghan Parliament -- tragically he was gunned down returning from a Mosque in Quetta. The finger was pointed at the Taliban/ISI -- it is cited as one more of the reasons Karzai hates Pakistan.

Bacha Khan was a visitor at the Karzai home in Afghanistan -- they come from a prominent Afghan family.
