CWG medals and Updates

New Delhi: Ace Indian pugilist Akhil Kumar began his Commonwealth Games campaign with a bang as he beat Pakistan’s Qadir Khan 7-0 here at the Talkatora Stadium on Thursday.

Akhil, who had never faced the Pakistan boxer before, displayed aggressive play throughout the match and did not allow his Pakistani counterpart to score even a single point.

Akhil will now face English boxer Iain Weaver, who had beaten him in the first round of the Commonwealth Boxing Championships in March earlier this year.

If Akhil manages to pack off the Englishman, he would have to then square off against other top ranked pugilists on his way to a medal.
