ISLAMABAD - Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms, Ahsan Iqbal has said that the Diamer-Bhasha and Dasu dams are a part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Briefing a meeting of the special committee on CPEC here, the minister said that the dams would be built at a combined cost of $26 billion. “Diamer-Bhasha and Dasu will be built at a cost of $14 billion and $12 billion, respectively.”

He said that energy projects worth $11.3 billion and $9.1 billion would be initiated in Sindh and Balochistan, respectively. The city of Gwadar will receive 300 megawatts of power projects, he added.

Ahsan said an airport built as per international standards was a part of the economic corridor project, adding that work on the western route is progressing rapidly.

The meeting was informed that the Chinese government was keen to complete the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) on time, and was taking measures in this regard.

The meeting was attended by Gilgit Baltistan Chief Minister Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman and his Balochistan counterpart Nawab Sanaullah Zehri, Senator Mushahid Hussain and other members of the committee.

That seems very expensive for a dam. With that money around 13 Aircraft carriers could be inducted or 23 Burj al Khalifas could be built.

Humans can live without military toys and buildings but not WATER--------------It is priceless. Pakistan needs to build as much reservoirs as possible, no matter what the costs are.

Does anybody know the total cost involved in CPEC ?

How much is FDI and how much is Loan ?

And if 2 Dams and 2 power projects will eat up more than 46 Billion Dollars then what is left for other projects ?

We are hearing the stories of these dams since the time of Musharaf than zardari and now Nawaz sharif is repeating . Nawaz is good in hiding money in Pananma Island there is nothing more a common Pakistani can expect from him :D

Frankly, PML-N progress to tackle Power Crisis is extremely slow. They haven't started both projects yet. :-s

Also, cost is a bit higher as compare to single Dam at neighboring country which cost little higher but could generate 220% more electricity against both dams combined and 30% more water capacity, Matter of fact, the dasu and diamer are naturally covered with huge mountains give much favorable place. Government should look into reducing the cost of the dams. And i am sure it is possible.

But last not least, Kindly start the dam construction right away.
