Featured China’s growing nuclear strength worries the Pentagon

At the height of cold war, both Soviet and US has tens of thousands nuke warheads, and still it cannot destroy the world or the country, let along China's rather small nuclear arsenal now.

People have been VASTLY overestimating the power of nuke bombs, for various reasons.
It can destroy the world. Just that they don't dare to do the unthinkable.

China need 1 thousand nuke will do.. Remember China HGV is impossible to intercept. One warhead with 3.3 megaton explosion is enough to knock a city of LA.
HGV is impossible to intercept right now. But regardless how you spin it China doesn't have enough nukes to counter US or Russia. A country like Russia with the GDP of one Chinese province has more nukes than China. Let's call it for what it is.
China's stockpile now does not guaranteed MAD. That is why US is still pestering China in all fronts.
Also with your current nukes, you assume every warhead fired will hit it's target and do the theoretical damage it's supposed to do.
If I were US I would take my chances and nuke China now before they have a chance to stockpile more.

Chinese boys here are definitely overestimating China's second strike capability.

China has underspent on the military, so much that it has probably cost them in the development of dual-use tech which would have enriched civilian life. 3-4% of GDP, and I mean true GDP, would be a good starting point. An additional discretionary fund for making up for lost time should be included as well. It would provide good work for many of China's engineers as well. China is eventually going to have so many engineers that they're going to need these jobs.
They will just spend it on the useless things like taller skyscrapers and beautifying airports and bus terminals.

China figured that out already and increased our stockpile to 1000+ strategic nuclear warheads already.

That's a tooth fairy fantasy peddled by ignorant sheeple who are irrationally afraid of war. All the nuclear weapons in the world detonated together have less explosive power than that volcano that erupted in Indonesia some year ago.

More like US try to down play China second strike capabilities. There is reason why China heavily develop mobile ICBM like DF-41 which US don't even have or lack the technology to do one. They can hide in deep mountain which can withstood nuclear strike plus China has a full early warning system which they can capture US launching a full nuclear strike. If that is the case, they will be no second strike but immediate retaliation once can confirm its a US ICBM nuke strike launch.

Lol, please don't insult me. I read Chinese some posts insulting Hu, saying he is a fool, idiot, etc
I'll be nice and assume the PLA take him seriously. Do you really think China can produce 1000 MIRV nuclear warheads in 2 weeks?

We have the fissile materials stockpiled already. We've been stockpiling since the 1960's. If GT announced it, the warheads are probably done already.

Maybe they are playing down China's second strike capability, maybe not. What I'm saying is if I were US leader I would take a chance and nuke China knowing that I will have a great chance of destroying China with some damage to US.

Inshort: increase our budget orange retard.

China used to think that hiding its nuclear capabilities would lead the opponent to overestimate and take a cautious approach due to uncertainty. Then Beijing realized that many American politicians don't even know China has nukes. So they changed the strategy -- hence Hu Xijin's announcements.

Yes

The old strategy would work if you have much more than your opponents and you want him to make the first move so you can destroy him.

Well, to be fair, the US could build nearly 10,000 nuke bombs in a year in 1950s, with the kind of industrial power China has now, including nuke industry, the nuke-gap between the two can close in a rather short time.

Actually due to Hu's article, there is one nuke specialist in China, Professor Yang, wrote two articles so far, critizing Hu Xijin like crazy, claimed Hu's article cause trouble to China's policy makers and want to shut him up.

But in the second article Yang wrote, he actually admitted that China has much more nukes than public believed, people should not be overly worried about that.

Also I remember one General from Russia rocket force wrote an article about China's nuke arsenal, on his account, he believe that China current has about 2000-3000 nuke bombs and warheads.

But whatever the number, it is still less than that of the US, althrough not that much, but more importantly, China now still dont have sufficient delivery vehicles that can deliver the nukes to the US.

There are about 18-20 ICBM brigades in China, roughly 200-300 ICBMs now, many of them are single-warhead DF-31s/31As, the SLBM on SSBNs also has single warhead, and JL-2 get a range issue to strike US now.

So at most, China can only deliver about 500 warheads to the US now, China definitely need to update their nuke arsenals, especially building ICBMs like crazy to close the gap.

I'll take Yang or the former Russian General's word any day regarding the size of the Chinese nuclear program over those of American nuclear analysts, who want China to be posterboy for nuclear disarmament lol.

Yang is a total moron. Besides, he is retired. Hu Xijin is the party mouthpiece.

Yang is one of those people who believe if you are very mysterious and say nothing everybody will get scared and overestimate China and thereby China will gain a strategic advantage
