When 54% of the goods and services are exported, that leaves only $4 Trillion worth of goods and services for the 1.2 billion people of China. That is not much.

The exported items hand over huge amount of cash to the Chinese government which deposits it in US and European banks or buys assets abroad.

The people in China get cash while producing export items as well as items for domestic consumption. This cash cannot buy much because a bulk has been exported.

All in all, it is bad economics in China. They would know it in a bit of time when they find that their mines have been exhausted of coal, iron ores, oil and everything else, leaving behind pollution and dead rivers and lakes.
