What's new

India's GDP crosses $4 trillion for the first time, ranks fourth worldwide

GDP so high but why there is incredible poverty and hunger in india ? assumming the number is real and not propaganda where's the money going ?
Yes India is largest country in the world and even a large GDP when divided up into India's large population is miniscule. Thats why India must grow its GDP to be amongst the top three to make a significant dent in overall poverty. It is climbing that GDP ladder and will eventually get there, though one cannot predict exactly when as its a democracy that can suddenly change course if the Indian populace chooses some other course
GDP isn’t high if you look at it on a per capita basis. But with a nominal gdp that high
Yes but we are on the right road to achieve a higher GDP in per capita basis too. Its a long long road.
They have political and managerial limitations slowing down their growth.

China’s starting SEZs in 1978 showed if China could implement reforms to jump start with the best resources, it could then try to expand to the rest of the country over the next 45 years.
Logistics is indeed the Achilles heel in India. THAT IS WHY INDIA IS SPENDING TENS OF BILLIONS UPGRADING FREIGHT CORRIDORS. THERE ARE DEDICATED CORRIDORS COMING UP ACROSS THE COUNTRY. Each year India climbs up the logistics rating of all countries, a long way to go to catch up with the best but India is investing HEAVILY in logistics.

We cannot do what China did. We cannot take away land from the owners and pass it free of charge to foreign companies. We cannot throw away all workers rights overnight. We cannot let companies tax free years and we cannot discard all laws regarding building regs environmental regs etc etc. In other words we cannot ride rough shod as China can with its own populace

This is how Shanghai looked like in 2007. When China's GDP is about $3.5T. GDP can not measure a country's real development level.

New Zealand has a low GDP and is one of the best countries to live in.

Bangladesh apparently surpassed Denmark according to a vlogger visiting there and it also surpassed Finland from what I read.

Where are all those Binglo nationalists puffing at these countries.

Lol, can always pride yourselves with the la la land is the largest street shitter democracy. Don't always drag in China as the villain into your discussion to make you fools feel good.

Good excuse to attribute others' acheivements to a result of riding roughshod. Be happy to stay poor for ever.

lee kuan yew did say if indians put him in charge he could turn india into singapore
No. He didn't. He never held any hope to India. He said no one can change India

nvm ur right he said it was hopeless

GDP so high but why there is incredible poverty and hunger in india ? assumming the number is real and not propaganda where's the money going ? to buy useless weapons or pay for pension of the rich generals and govt officials ? it just sad to see India getting worse and worse economically while their useless weapon purchases also rusting. The more indian propaganda trumpeting success or GDP or supapowa nonsense , the worse the reality of people of india
The GDP is not high at all, you have to remember we are comparing countries with small populations to over 1billion+ Indians

GDP per capita is the more accurate measure

Notice how it's the only country in the top 25 that couldn't even make it to 5,000 while others are at the very least double that

What the heck is the list which dont put Indonesia on it... look like the image is made by Indonesian hater hehehe, could be Indian BJP supporter though....

The data also has flaw accuracy, anyway Saudi is still on top of Turkey as well. Mexico should be above Netherland. 2023 is also not yet completed, India projection by IMF is at 3.7 trillion USD for 2023 (ended in April 2024)

Any way credible Indian media like first post has debunked it as well Today.

Notice how in top 5, China is the only country that couldn't even make it to 15000??

The more astonishing is how come Indian media can make a news like this based on a viral screenshot of an image ?

Do they dont have an economic editor ? Not only this media, but also several of Indian media, even those which specializing on economic news

For journalist who have made economic report every day, they should have known it. It is not a news made by Youtube channel that cannot be verified, but Indian mainstream media, even the economic specialist one is also one of them.....In media, there have already been specialization, there is no general journalist who can write sport, economic, politics at one particular media.

How can this pass through their editorial screening ?

You Indians really have to drag in China every time you are upset ? Where is your shithole country GDP per Capita compared to China, lol, have the face to point at the inadequacy of China doesn't make you great and your problem go away.

Why is Canadian getting their panties all bunched up? Are you chinese?

I was trying to make a point. Per capita GDP doesn't really matter when it comes to a country and economy the size of China or India for that matter. Once a country hits a certain threshold in terms of it's GDP, it goes to a different level in terms of its strategic power and influence, and other countries think twice before trying to mess with it.

Your right It is a slow and steady path, especially within legal means, so achieving the third largest GDP is inevitable, as Japan keeps declining. As to how large India’s GDP Will grow will be dependent on local companies competitiveness in the global marketplace higher up on the value added chain and FDI.

India won’t have as much market access the way China has gotten; there is just more competition nowadays, especially with desire by markets like the US to near shore in places like Mexico. Also, India’s demographics will go from growing to stagnation and decline in about 20 years, to be at the level China is currently. For India. Though, the population decline will be slower.

India should be at same level as China since gdp were equal in the 60s and 70s. I don;t know how China GDP is now 18trillion + and India gdp approaching 4 trillion. India telling the world that it is growing rapidly must look like a big joke compared to Chinas growth.

here we have GDP on PPP of countries.
here, Chinese GDP has a share of export money/foreign money in its GDP, but its would be maintained at 1st place.
but US? with 'bubble' economy, i don't think US having place in top 2
US's economy would fall below Indian economy if we consider the bubble within....
