California Senate Passes Bill To Ban Caste Discrimination

This landmark bill comes just weeks after the California Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously passed SB403 in April.

California:
In a historic move, the California State Senate on Thursday passed a legislation that would ban caste-based discrimination in the State.

Passed by 34-1 vote, the bill – SB 403, would make California the first US state to add caste as a protected category in its anti-discrimination laws. Promoters of the bill, being led by non-profit Equality Lab, said that a similar bill is being introduced in the State House of Representatives, before it can be sent to the Governor to be signed into a law.

Introduced by California Senator Aisha Wahab, SB 403 adds caste as a protected category to an existing law, the Unruh Civil Rights Act, which provides that all people in the state of California are entitled to the full and equal accommodations, advantages, facilities, privileges, or services in all business establishments.

US takes its business and corporate culture seriously. They are all about economy. They didn't know about caste discrimination and now this will probably be updated to include caste.

'The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is responsible for enforcing federal laws that make it illegal to discriminate against a job applicant or an employee because of the person's race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy and related conditions, gender identity, and sexual orientation), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information.'

It is why people want to move to America.

Banning caste discrimination is good.

They should ban Hijab & Burqa too. Muslim women should be liberated as well.

No. That would be religious discrimination and unconstitutional. People have rights. There is a White Muslim YouTuber whose dad worked on American Airforce base and he was raised up there. He walked around the base dressed like OBL with turban, beard and flowing robe and no one questioned him.

I am with hindus here, their discrimination is more logical then woke agenda for fake equality. Check recent bud light beer fiasco for the reference.

Agree, we shouldn't discriminate based on caste/religion etc.. but then we also shouldn't give preferential treatment to any of those groups.. as above, so below must we fix.

I'm not for a ban on it, but both govt. and privates should be allowed to selectively do so if they want.. same as beards, or long hair, or visible tatoos, piercings, funky hairstyles.

but no blanket ban.. ghar pe and private time pe jo krna hai karo.. workplace pe workplace rules.

not that complicated afaict, man.
