Bullet train will need 100 trips daily to be financially viable: Study

You can't bring down the cost under a certain point. The Chinese cost is $17m and $21m per kilometre and that's the cheapest it will get with current technologies.

It's called a risk and India doesn't have an appetite for such a risk.

The main thing that people (especially naysayers) dont realise about the objectives of this project:
Have you looked at the Income growth of Indians and the overgrowing inflation ?
How did you come to the conclusion that demand will be huge in 2030.

Staying ahead of demand when there is little demand.o_O
$15 Billion pilot project just to prepare for the unforeseeable future demand when you are pretty much in red?:pleasantry:

Why so negative?
To make some sense to you, understand this if India or China fails whole world fails, so world cannot afford that.
Its not that India is growing economy or china is up coming super power, but the core is the population of these countries. If the economies fails here, the population will cause so many global social issues that no one will be able to resolve and whole world will become a deep pile of shit.

Its human to desire to grow towards better life and for countries like India, china and many other developing countries the desire has just started so there is a very long path ahead and for which they will fight all odds.

Those who dream of better future plan for it and work for it, but negative critics cannot dream and cannot see others dream getting fulfilled.

World is going to grow and grow fast because vast population (see china/india) now got the taste of growth and better life and want that to improve.

So basically these millions of Indian's who value travel time over slight cost are rich enough to buy HSR tickets but not an airline ticket.:what:

Do you know, to catch a flight one needs to be at airport generally 1hr 30mins before the flight time. Secondly airports are majorly outside the city. So for a commuter say Ahemdabad Mumbai a flight is of 1hr 30 mins, time to travel to airport is 30 mins, check-in and boarding time at airport say 1hr 30min, baggage collection at mumbai again 20 mins. So total time would be around 4hrs minimum and if same distance can be covered in 3hrs using HSR then why not, it will save not only transportation cost as well traveling time.

You know what people generally dont travel by flight for Surat - mumbai or vadodra-mumbai as currently the total time consumed in leaving from home and reaching mumbai via flight is more or less same which a superfast train takes.
Once HSR is there, the train time will cut down to 1hr or so, thats more or less equal to what in general a flight from surat to mumbai takes (approx 1hr) and there is no hassle of doing check-in 45 mins earlier or traveling out of city to catch flight.

So its not necesarily that airline is always fast option.

Reading all the replies I'm not sure why people think taking a HSR is easier ? You do all the same shit and there are baggage limits.
