Defence secretary says it is 'illogical' for Britain to take part in bombing campaigns against Islamic State, or Isil, in Iraq but not Syria

Britain is considering bombing jihadists from the so-called Islamic State in Syria, the defence secretary has indicated for the first time.

Michael Fallon said it was “illogical” for Britain to take part in bombing campaigns against Islamic State, or Isil, in Iraq but not Syria.

The comments will be seen as the clearest sign that the Government is considering stepping up military action against the terrorists across the Middle East.

The Defence Secretary said MPs would need to reflect on how best to confront the threat from Isil and factor in the groups failure to respect borders in the Middle East.

He told BBC Radio 4’s World At One: “It is a new Parliament and I think Members of Parliament will want to think very carefully about how we best deal with Isil and the illogicality of Isil not respecting the borderlines.

“They don’t differentiate between Syria and Iraq, they are establishing this evil caliphate across both countries.”

Mr Fallon said that MPs in Parliament would get a vote on any decision to start bombing isil.

• We will never be able to negotiate with Isis - so what are the other options?

He said any prospective military intervention in Syria would be put before Parliament unless the country faced “an imminent threat”, when the Government would have the right to “take action without parliamentary approval”.

The news came after Mary Creagh, who was challenging to be leader of the Labour party, said the party was wrong to rule out British bombing raids on Islamic State in Syria last year.

Could. But not likely given the current military situation.

why?
Isnt it the same group causing all the destruction in both Iraq and Syria???
Don't tell me Brits also have a concept of good and bad terrorists.

He thinks if UK bombs Syria,Putin will come and defend Syria....
What a joke! Arab countries and the US are already bombing Syria.
Hollande said after Charlie Hebdo that France "could" bomb Syria and then quickly forgot about it. This is also probably a spur of the moment reaction.

Even before Charlie Hebdo, the MoD told that we could strike ISIS in Syria, but nothing after that. As far as i know, after Charlie Hebdo,Hollande didn't talk about bombing Syria, and we probably won't if there's no real strategy....
Anyway,it seems we are concentrating our efforts in the Sahel than Iraq. (I may be wrong.)

The French are just present..that's all, they are not flying sorties like the US, Australia, Canada and the Brits. They like to be there for the glory with the the Arab coalition wing...as in Libya until the found out that the US and the Brits divided the oil field among themselves with nothing left for the French to say grace over..They will cry a little or attack an embassy like they did with the US embassy in Benghazi.

Simply, France is 2 trillions plus Euros in debt, she doesn't have the means to do anything...anywhere.

Hollande was worried by his re-election, know he has no worry..KSA money and Algerian electorate will get him elected. He sealed the deal the past June 15th in Algiers.

You should be worried about your failed country, the prices of oil are low,the junta will not last long...
Oil represents 95% of your exportations. And provides 60% of your state budget.

A lot of countries where betting in secret if the French aircraft carrier will make it without being towed...In finality she made it...essouflee  but no French aircraft took to the Air, it was all US, Brits, Canadian and Aussies....You may impress your arab friends and your Romanian gleaner...but you don't full the ones who knows better ....Anyway, we will be there if your @ss gets in a crack and needs saving...
Oil down or up it doesn't really matter for Bouteflika as long it doesn't dip below $37. I don't think he knows where he is and who he is.. and the country is humming..

No thank you, stop with this nonsense. No money for public servants, healthcare and the needy, but plenty for bombs that will have no effect but to further mess with an already hell like situation.
