They humiliated and demeaned a higher functionary of the state. If Geo would be in the U.S it was banned by this time and all its owners would be imprisoned.

No state in the world allows its media channel to degrade its institutions and put allegation against them.

People should also try to stay away from these tabloid media channels.

No intention to ban Jang and Geo: Nawaz - thenews.com.pk

LONDON: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Tuesday that his government had no intention of banning Geo and the Jang Group as requested by the Ministry of Defence.

Asked by The News about the attempts by some quarters to persecute Geo and the Jang Group, Nawaz Sharif said that the media was playing a positive role in Pakistan and there was every reason for an independent media such as Jang and Geo to continue functioning without any forcible shutdowns.

The prime minister said that since he came to power, his government had not imposed any kind of restrictions on the media and it believed in the freedom of expression.

Asked about the application seeking a ban on Geo and the Jang Group through Pemra, the premier said that a Judicial Commission had been formed to look into various aspects of the developments surrounding the attack on Hamid Mir. The premier stressed that the commission was the right forum to look into various aspects of the incident.

That definition means something only if it can be shown how Geo's coverage fits the description.

The television in question ran slides and documentaries propagandising that ISI ordered and executed the attack on Hamid Mir and yeah it went beyond what the journalist once said or expressed his concerns for straight six hours if not more . The campaign only subsided when the public anger started to show in protests/demonstrations . There's little reason to fool yourself nor any to stick your head up in technicalities . What GEO was trying to do in clear violation of PEMRA rules , is more than clear .

The law runs on technicalities, not orifices, unfortunately.

It may be your opinion that what Geo did was wrong, but let us wait for what PEMRA decides on whether any rules were actually broken and what punishment is necessary, if any.

Even in such case , GEO did go beyond reporting what Hamid Mir said once upon a time . Maybe you didn't watch the special transmission on ISI , we did here . With the anti-army Govt in place , there's nothing thats going to happen , no punishments or fines or any termination of the license , welcome to Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the ugly side of this country's due processes .

Like I said, you may find that Geo's coverage was not your liking, but the fact remains that it was within the ambit of a major media outlet. The present government was elected into power by the people, so calling it any names is an insult to the people of Pakistan.

And if Geo is not fined, then we all must accept the decision, even if some here might not agree with it.

They were asked to miss their target on purpose. They didn't want Hamid Mir to become a martyr.

But hey, did the ISI do it? Or was it just a personal feud over finances or a property dispute??

It is clear that anyone with a gun could have killed him that day. So obviously killing him was not the purpose, regardless of who did it.

The fact is ? What fact are we talking about here ? Propagandising and putting baseless accusations against an important and sensitive institution of the state is within the ambit of any media outlet somehow ? Seriously ? The present Govt's attitudes are well known , there's no need to pretend otherwise . Far , very far , it is from insulting the people of Pakistan .

Dont worry , the channel will not be fined by any chance and neither the public appears to be ready to accept the already-written decision judging from the responses of the ruling side over the matter .
