Russia and India started talks about acquiring the new fighter jet in 1994. Sukhoi Design Bureau started working on an upgrade of Su30 a year later which resulted in Su-30MK Modernizirovannyi Kommercheskiy (Modernised Commercial). On 30 November 1996, Russian state company Rosoboronexport and Indian Defence Ministry has signed a contract for development and production of eight Su-30Ks and 32 Su-30MKIs for the Indian Air Force. The eight Su-30Ks of the order were delivered at Lohegaon Air Force Base in India till July 1997. On 28 December 2000 Russia & India signed a contract for $3 billion for license production of 140 Su-30MKI fighters at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited production plant in Nashik. In 2002–2004, in accordance with the 1996 contract, 32 Su-30MKIs were built in Irkutsk Aviation Plant for India & from 2004 onward, production is carried by HAL at Nashik.

In 2007 India returned Russia 18 Su-30K & swapped them for 18 Su-30MKI fighters. Here India changed the entire blood line of the Su-30 only exporting kits of Su30 from Russia & made an entirely new fighter with multiple systems integrated into the Jet from of the shelf western technology.

Mean while 12 out of 18 returned Indian Su-30K were sold by Russia to Angola. Russia upgraded the Angola Air force Su30K to Su30SM standards. As part of a $1 billion deal that also includes other equipment and maintenance services for Angola which was ordered on 16 October 2013. Angola received first two aircraft in September 2017, then 4 more in 2018 & by April 2019 entire order of Angola Airforce was completed.

Today the Angola Air force is flying the India rejected Su30K which were upgraded to SM standards by Russia in a jolly colorful African camouflage as whole integrated package & the jet is a formidable force defending Angola.

Where as India developed the Su30 kits it bought from Russia to it's own thinking which include a customized version of the Israeli Elbit Su 967 head-up display (HUD). The forward facing Russian NIIP N011M Bars (Panther) is a powerful integrated passive electronically scanned array radar. The N011M is a digital multi-mode dual frequency band radar. It also carries the Israeli AN/AAQ-28(V) LITENING targeting pod is an advanced precision targeting pod system. The Indian Su30MKI is fitted with a satellite navigation system (A-737 GPS compatible), which permits it to make flights in all weather, day and night. The navigation complex includes the high accuracy SAGEM Sigma-95 integrated global positioning system and ring laser gyroscope inertial navigation system which came from French company. Indian Su-30MKI has electronic counter-measure systems. The RWR system is of Indian design, developed by India's DRDO, called Tarang. It also has a Elta EL/M-8222 a self-protection jammer developed by Israel Aircraft Industries is the MKI's standard EW pod, which the Israeli Air Force uses on its F-15s. The ELTA El/M-8222 Self Protection Pod is a power-managed jammer, air-cooled system with an ESM receiver integrated into the pod. The pod contains an antenna on the forward and aft ends, which receive the hostile RF signal and after processing deliver the appropriate response.
Reading all the systems that India has place in it's Su30Mki you must be thinking that India has done a great job & their decision was good regarding the development of their own blood line of Su30 but here the case is totally different. The problem is none of the Indian installed systems on the Su30MKI talk to each other. For example the Israeli Jammer on Indian Su30MKI will also jam the the Radar of it's own Jet cause both Russia & Israel being on the opposite side of the international collation refuse to provide India with source codes to solve this problem. The french navigation is not talking to the Russian Radar in the Jet & Israeli HUD is also doing the same. The thing which India forgot was that no one in the world will compromise their own national security for Indian national security. Thus India was force to add multiple displays for every system which increased the Job of the pilot flying the jet & also increased the weight of Indian Su30MKI.
So Angola a poor African nation today enjoys as a formidable weapon what India rejected & till date India is stuck in the problem solving issue with it's own designed & upgrades of the same jet. The story of 2 blood lined of Su30.

Lord, answer the questions raised in the article rather than going in to semantics.

First problem in the Su 30 MKi is RWR system of Indian design, developed by India's DRDO. Anything designed and produced by DRDO has very limited chances of working.

No wonder Indian's Su 30 Mki got title of "AMRAM Dodgers".

Secondly, what kind of stupid decision makers fit products of different countries, which are not compatible with each other and cannot work in harmony with each other on an aircraft!!

The Su MKi is a product, well suited to the Indians, their thinking, their capabilities. Enjoy the fruits of your stupidity Indians.

Well we saw the performance of this world class fighter on 27th feb.

On paper u can boast alot but in real battlefield it failed. Failed badly ... couldnt even fire ...

It did its job or deter f16 from.entering Indian air space enough so you dropped your bombs and missiles well out of range and scuttled across loc.

Regarding the thread and notion that subsystems are not intergrated. Let me confirm

Took over 15 years to get where we are today
Careful planning and doctrine built thanks to annual exercises with mki against usa France Israel Singapore and UK typhoon fighters

Subsystems are carefully designed and interlinked make no mistake about that

I can understand the Jammer part, but the rest of the article is childish.

As for integration, there is a reason for Mission computer. The system is scalable. Any new mod can be added. As for MKI it was widely reported India developed the mission computer and integration part along with Russians. Infact Russians made use of MKI philosophy and made their MKK version. When someone needs to integrate stuff, they just need to provide an library with defined set of operational commands which are then used for integration with mission computer. That's the basic. Sharing libraries doesn't mean anyone has to give source codes. That's a reason why we tested Astra in Su30 and integrated our own systems like Displays, rwr, ew suites, finally BrahMos with Indian seeker in Su.

I would say the article is primarily poorly researched.

PAF never intended to enter Indian Air Space. If we needed then we could have done with the strike package i.e. mirrage and thunder and not F16s which was for air defense and air superiority role.

We took down 2 of your aircrafts and even in your version your MKI could not give a firing solution (despite claiming one of the most powerful radar) and could only leave the theater to try dodging the PAF missiles (it dodged or not is a point of debate therefore I will not get into that).

So despite claiming to have radar powerful then F16s or Thunder, MKI failed to engage the target which is enough proof that MKI paper specs failed in real battle.

All this was happening when IAF was on high alert and we had no element of surprise. Your backup aircraft wouldd have been ready on the base, MKIs would have been flying with BVRs ared upto the teeth and so do your mirrages and bison.

you now nothing about weapon integration. If its just about sharing library and issuing command then why it take years in integration?

Russia might have created MKK version from MKI but sourcing of all the equipment was from single country and hence is much reliable.

What you are talking about that a sftware made for IoS can be run on android by putting a intermediary between them. In theory it is easy but in practice it is a hell of a job and never a perfect merger. Both of the systems has different infrastructure so when you try to merge them it is always a compromise. Plus in the world of data fusion, it is stuidity.
