NEW DELHI: American experts have accused China of stealing the US design in its first indigenously developed fifth-generation fighter jet, which was displayed at Dubai Airshow on Sunday, raising doubts over the achievement of the country which has stolen a march over India in developing the aircraft.

US defence and strategic affairs experts alleged that the design of the FC-31 "Gyrfalcon" or J-31, which was showcased for the first time abroad according to a Chinese military run portal, was stolen from the US-made F-35 in April 2009 when Chinese hackers entered the networks of American defence equipment maker Lockheed Martin.

The FC-31's airframe is similar to that of the F-35. The FC-31 also has two internal weapons bays that can carry guided and unguided weapons, just like the F-35.

"The similarity includes the use of two tracking mirrors and a flat-facetted optical window, with bottom fuselage placement just aft the radar radome," IHS Jane's Defence Weekly said.

The Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) is trying to sell FC-31 as an alternative to Lockheed Martin's F-35 joint strike fighter. Besides Chinese Air Force, Iran and Pakistan are understood to have shown some interest in this fighter jet.

AVIC officials present at the Dubai Airshow hailed the aircraft's "outstanding situational awareness" and said that the FC-31 is designed for "the demands of future battlefield environments".

Most aircraft experts believe, though, that China's F-35 cannot compete with the American fifth-generation aircraft. But not much is known about the aircraft, which has derivatives of Russian engine at this stage.

This aircraft first flew at the Zhuhai Air Show in China in 2014 and could reach full operational capability in 2024.

well,.. this article has just increased the sales prospects of J31.. the countries who believed that J31 is no where close will have to rethink becoz now USA itself believes that J31 is a copy, which means its very close to F35 if not equal.. so actually they r marketing the product....

How is India relevant in this article as indicated in the first paragraph of this article? This passage is about China and US developing planes...

Rather than care about China's J31, it is better to care about your own LCA.:D
Sorry,I was wrong. You can buy the aircraft from the US, Russia, Britain, Germany, France and Israel.

Meh, unlike HAL, Chinese aviation industry is actually competent.
Chinese aviation industry Doesn't Able to replicate successful Jet engines Yet , 5th gen Network Centric Sensor Fusion technology is a Different Ball-game All together

Sure, China is not there on par with the US yet, but they are progressing fast. In the other hand, it takes India longer time to BUY MMRCA, than China to BUILD its own 5th gen fighters for export.

well we are not Talking about Export Deal here India surely have its bottle Necks as being a Bureaucracy of Developing Country. But that Doesn't mean India is not Progressing in other Fields

copy of the airframe does not in any way mean it is even close to the F-35 in effectiveness.

Thats an old allegation repeated each time when there is a J-31 news. It is really sounding like a broken record now. Nonetheless J-31 will also be Pakistan's stealth fighter.
