Aesa not on First Batch of Tejas MK-2?

Sources close to idrw.org have confirmed that development of AESA for Tejas MK-2 is under way with foreign assistance in the program, but sources are hinting that AESA radar might not be ready for integration on first prototype of Tejas MK-2 which will be rolled out by mid of next year and will have it first flight by year end.

HAL plans to put Tejas MK-2 in production by 2016 but New Aesa radar will require more time in integration’s of weapons and separate validation test on each weapons , it is likely that first batch of Tejas MK-2 will come with older MMR radar developed for Tejas MK-1 and it seems IAF is ok with that .

Sources have also informed that AESA radar is still under development stage and will enter Ground based testing stage and then aircraft integration’s with Test bed aircraft so entering in first batch of Tejas MK-2 is highly unlikely .

So if next the IAF does not consider Tejas to be operational without stealth features.....would that mean that MKI's not operational either?

Do you realize you are talking nonsense? Tejas is meant to replace MiG-21, so it must have capabilities exceeding that of
MiG-21, these capabilities take time to be integrated, and got delayed on the way. It was possible to declare Tejas "operational" many years ago, without having any of these capabilities, but then it wouldn't be able to replace MiG-21 in any role - what would be the use?

What kind of BS reporting is this.

Title of the article says AESA won't be ready for batch but the actual article states AESA won't be on the first prototype (considering it is set to fly a early as 2015 that isn't surprising) which is entirely understandable. What prototypes come in final spec from day one? Did the LCA Mk.1 come with LDP, HMDS etc etc all integrated from day one?

In fact the Mk.2 being ready for flight trails by the end of 2015 and production of it by 2016 is actually GREAT news. Even if the first lot of MK.2s arrive without AESA radars that can always be added at a later stage quite easily, the priority is to get as many LCAs in service as quickly as possible.

I don't expect LCA Mk-2 to fly anytime before 2017. Considering the first F414 engine would arrive in 2015 only and
much work needs to be done after that. But the good part is, Mk-2 will indeed be a potent LMRCA once it actually comes,
with or without AESA in the first batch. (it would definitely have either indigenous or Israeli/French AESA eventually though).

IAF is firm about acquiring 83 Mk-2s (first order only), and Navy was heard to be considering 46 Mk-2s for a variety of
roles.

That was the previous timeline for first trails, that's what makes this news pretty bogus for me.

IAF is sure to go for more than that many MK.2s, 46 Mk.2s and 45 MiG-29K/KUB for the IAC-1 and Viky (and a few on shore roles) is a pretty healthy force, leaves the IAC-2 fresh for an entirely new lot of a/c.

Yeah, Saurav Jha recently said IAF would opt for around 220 LCAs...considering all the planes after the first 40 would be
Mk-2s, that leaves upto 180 jets of this block. Even a repeat order of 83+83 (166) would be extremely feasible.

It can be integrated later aur acchi side dekho 2016 tak production bhi chalu ho jayegi
 
Well, sure. If you are ready to declare a plane as operational at the earliest opportunity. For example JFT still doesn't have an operational HMD, LDP, IFR, etc., not even a military-grade programming language, still uses C++ (also didn't have BVR weapons when first made "operational").

While LCA isn't considered operational by IAF until it has all those above listed stuff fully integrated.

If dont have information on things, then dont come up with bullshit. Banned from thread.

Again idrw.org, the production is planned for 2018 only.

It can be added later, but it doesn't make sense to restrict the upgraded fighter to a puls doppler radar, only because we make the fighter project again dependent on the development of a subsystem. We made this mistake throughout the whole LCA program, be it because we wanted indigenous FBW, indigenous engine or indigenous puls doppler MMR and all of this has delayed the fighter far beyond any rational points. We have realized how silly that was and de-linked Kaveri project, so doing the same with the AESA project is the way to go, both can be added when they are ready and available, but till then, the LCA must use modern off the shelf techs and not limited capability only to say it's indigenous.
It's simply nuts that we want MKI upgrades and Rafale if possible with AESA by 2016, but that we are ok to induct the first LCA MK2 squad around 2020 with basic puls doppler radars! The only logical choice is, to benefit from the MMRCA procurement and select the same or a varient of the same AESA for LCA MK2 as well, at least for the first squads. More commonality, more capability, less logistical problems and costs!

That's clear, the question is only when? DRDO claims on the one side, big doubts at ADA or HAL officials on the other side. And given DRDOs trackrecord of failed promises, I don't see a reason not to be pessimistic here.

that's very true. delays are inevitable as far as these agencies are concerned. I personally believe that tejasmk2 won't be fully ready before 2020 that include aesa too.

The estimates for induction even hint at 2022, which is very sad, but that also shows how little sense the N-LCA makes, since it is based on the MK2 upgrades and then logically will be available for induction into IN only beyond 2022, years after IAC 2 will be available and even close to IAC2, which however won't be able to use it, if it gets catapults. A complete waste of time and money and another silly idea that makes the LCA project suffer!
