It's norms in every successful democracy have you read US senate report about US military

but they do pricieslli that to blackmail MOD for there foriegn toys specially french as if french ones are to be selected that means free perks and holidays "with family" for the concerrned athurities in the deal at the expense of indian tax payers money

why else you think IAF kept on chnging the goal posts for LCA midway but was happy to kill owr rockee pilots in Mig21s whereas rejecting LCA cause it is 500KG havier than requested ?

Sorry when DRDO after wasting their time for 30 years will come up with disasters like Arjun and Tejas What else you expect IAF to do ?

in case of tejas first 12 years were not totalli an eyewash not even blueprints were made or the design was frozen

it was almost same for arjun as indian army from day one dint want an indian made MBT and for many years dint even gave properlli ther requirements for the arjun

so its not entierlli DRDO or ARDE/HAL s fault why these projects got delayed

had IAF been serous about LCA it could have been flying with at least 1 full squad by now as first flight was done under ABVs NDA goverment in 2001 as the real push for all indian made wepons system came in time of NDA goverments even good old ABV named LCA as "tejas"

but now things are ironed owt and top IAF brass is running to find cover as many who deliberetelli scuttled LCA project are fearing a probe against them as many MOD baboons have deu to fear have already spilled the beans which is not leaked into media but there is proper curning going on in all such departments

the new goverment and MOD under MP want LCA on very fast track basis and for that funds are no longer a problem and R&D for MK2 , AURA and AMCA have been given a push like never before and the project managers of these projects are directlli answrable to DM who has to give monthli briefing for the same to PMO

just wieght for a year and the picture will be clear for every one to see

you will bite your words :taz:

Contradiction much? how come your transparent military and government never found culprits who deliberately crashed half of indian air force? We never heard of any dismissals or punishments, it's always and I mean always attributed to technical faults, where is the transparency that you are beating your chest about? or are you lying about deliberate crashes? they both can't be right at the same time you must be lying about one thing, what is that transparency or deliberate crashing?

If ISRO can launch successful space missions, I don't have any doubt that DRDO can not make a decent tank or jet given the financial resources they have and how many western countries are willing to help/transfer the technology. I believe it has always been the corruption in indian military high command that has "sabotaged" home grown projects in favour of foreign stuff for kickbacks.

Sorry DRDO couldn't have been forced to come up with disaster. For me the issue is with DRDO yes their is massive corruption in Indian Army but DRDO is also producing disasters .

New Delhi, July 3

Facing a crisis of a dwindling fleet of fighter jets, the Indian Air Force (IAF), has formally told the Ministry of Defence (MoD) that it needs at least 80 Rafale-type multi-role combat fighter jets to be battle-ready in the next few years.

This is the first time the IAF has put a minimum number to its needs since the government, in April this year, announced a decision to buy 36 Rafale fighter jets from France in a “fly-away” condition. Initially, the IAF had projected the need for 126 such fighter jets and a global tender was floated, which is now in cold storage after the decision to buy Rafale was announced.

The Tribune, on June 2, had first reported that the IAF was reportedly uneasy with the number of jets ordered. It had prepared a blueprint for the MoD. Sources said the IAF has conveyed the need for five squadrons and estimated a squadron at 16 jets each, instead of the normal number of 18 jets, as the Rafale with its high-end technology is available to fly at short notice and has a shorter maintenance “turn-around”.

This works out to be 80 jets of Rafale or planes of such a type. The number is more in tune with creating minimum facilities for servicing and training of pilots and on ground technicians. “A decision on this has to be taken by the government,” a senior functionary said.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar had, in an interview to a news agency on May 31, said buying 126 jets, as proposed by the previous UPA government, was “economically unviable”.

Sources said the IAF has said “mere” 36 jets would not meet the shortfall due to the phasing out of fleet of MiG-21 and MiG-27 jets by 2022. There are some 260 obsolete MiG-21s and MiG-27s (Soviet Union-era single-engine fighter jets) in the fleet.

The force had projected an immediate requirement of 126 Rafale-type medium multi-role combat aircraft, and needs 400 jets over the next 10 years.

As of now, the IAF has 35 fighter jet squadrons (having 16-18 planes each) against its projected requirement of 42 squadrons to tackle any simultaneous war with China and Pakistan.

A mixed ancestry and level of technology marks the 640-odd fighter jet fleet, largely imported from Russia over the past 30 years. British and French companies have supplied around 150 planes.

In October last year, IAF Chief Air Marshall Arup Raha had said: “We are left with a few jets as a majority of our fleet is in a phase-out mode. The drawdown has to be tackled by quick induction of medium multi-role and light combat aircraft.”

Noted now plz accelerate the process of inducting LCA

Better fast track lca to fill up the quota. IndiAla will be buying around 72-90 Rafales in my honest opinion. Follow ups will achieve the required no.

You crash an old one, you get a new one :D

Indian military especially the IAF and IA has been known to come up with impossible to meet requirements and change specifications at the last moment. There are corrupt and incompetent people in the military too. An enquiry is needed and all such people court-martialed.

There are two issues regarding this...
1) What is "NEXT FEW YEAR"?... can some one give the time frame?
2) Will the French be able to produce the required numbers in that time frame?
