Actually its given in that picture of the anchor.
The main drawback was, after the Cholas, no kingdom had ever used navy as a instrument of force. It was the westerners who had come banging again.

Marathas had strong navy, which they used for power projection and combating Arab pirates

To start with- Yes the Marathas had a strong Navy. Partly because of a Maritime vision and partly because of the need to protect Maritime trade. But the later part of the Maratha Empire lost that maritime vision and Treaties were signed with Portuguese and even the English but no alliance could be cemented with the Sidis of Janjira. Why did that happen? With hind-sight it is clear that if that had been done; Surat and later events may not have happened. The Marathas simply frittered away their maritime muscle.

I meant buddy, after them, no kingdom had used to conquer other kingdoms.
Our Sub continent was rich in everything, that thought made our kings mind easy, and did not realise the importance of Navy.

And Marathas Navy was organised only after seeing the importance of navy through the british. Well of course they are strong navy and had used for power projection. :)
