2 most wanted TTP commander captured in Afghanistan

This is a counter insurgency war, you won’t see a mass surrender a la 1945. Not every fighter is a commander. You have leadership tier, and then you have the foot soldiers. You go after the financiers first, and then the commanders.

You would likely insert a mole and let them carry out attacks to prove their loyalty.

They are to the Taliban what Hezbollah is to Iran. They are a cross border wing of the Talibs and tasked to destabilize FATA, KPK and Baluchistan. BLA and BRA are also based in Afghanistan and are working with Talibs and TTP. This group is state funded and organised. Their key members are relatives of Talibs.

Over the years we have seen their men get taken out like this, most likely unwanted by Talibs/TTP and lined up to be replaced. They kill off any members that are either a risk of defecting or "become soft". Keeps the ranks in line. Must be part of that amazing "honor" culture they keep mentioning.

Only way to end this is a public surrender by TTP or a regime change in Afghanistan. I would prefer a regime change and dismantling of the Haqqani network for a permanent solution to this. The umblical cord between FATA and Afghan Pashtuns must be cut.

Pakistans foreign policy should be not be impacted/influenced by Afghans.

You can’t compare Hezbollah to TTP. Apples to oranges. TTP came about after Mushy threw his lot in with the Americans and a lot of nasty things happened. They were at one point our people. I’ve been involved in the counter insurgencies academically speaking for the past 15 years. You can’t kill your way out of this. In the end, it’s always a political solution, and this is no different. They won’t surrender per se, even if Pakistan could. Pakistan can peel off support and weaken them, which can work, and kill the ones who can’t be tamed. All im saying there’s a way to deal with this, and ostracize a large of our population. They can easily turn it into Pashtun vs Punjabi fight, and trust me - Pashtuns will make easy work of this Army - given the lack of will to fight.

Mentions black ops team. TTP has been coming after police, especially in KPK. With two SF outfits in KPK police, would members of KPK police be part of a black ops team.
I'll be honest with you, this twitter user has a habit of overhyping/inflating certain aspects of news like this. For example, the recent hit on TTP commanders in Afghanistan which resulted in 6 commanders neutralised and many more injured, this user (Stratcom bureau) called it an IED attack laid down by unidentified persons, where as more reputable sources stated it was a drone strike (most sources go with the drone strike possibility, rather than IED). So when he says black ops team, it could mean anything. Literally anything. Whilst the news of the 2 TTP terrorists being captured (and ultimately neutralised) is correct, the method/persons involved might not be.

TTP was always there but in a different guise. They have been attacking Bajaur and occupying NWFP areas for decades. Its the same people. But Pakistan's foreign policy decisions and declaration of war by the west on Afghanistan gave them a perfect opportunity to go "official" and "brand" themselves for the potential of deeper access and control.

I believe this was always the AQ game plan for Pakistan. Invite a war, wait for a war crime or an atrocity and use that as fuel to begin militancy inside Pakistan with a view to invoking ethnic conflict. Osama bin f**head promised the Talibs KPK, Baluchistan and Islamabad, isolation of Punjab, and said they will ride in with their white horses from Khorasan to make harems in Islamabad filled with Pakistani women and control of Pakistans nukes to usher in OBL the Khalifa of the caliphate. That is why TTP regard Pakistanis as Kaffirs, this is how their campaign began. It was not because of the drone strikes, that was a ruse.

I usually wait for pk confirmation for incidents and ops. But some specialised police forces cross the border and take part in international ops. KPK police has SF wings, but the call will be from federal. In pakistans case, CTD is an umbrella for joint ops.

Remember Ehsanullah? We can’t have these assets alive and then negotiate their release later.
It's not as black and white, I would say. If we can get valuable intel, then no point killing them off right away. It's about weighing the cost vs benefit

@Bleek , wdyt?

I agree with you, Ehsanullah was a unique isolated case.

Extract what you need and kill after if need be
