Star Online Report

- N Korea, Somalia most corrupt

- Denmark least corrupted

- Bangladesh 2nd most corrupted in SA

- Govt making graft scenario worse ‘by clamping down on civil society’

Bangladesh slipped one notch to rank as the 13th most corrupt country in the world, Transparency International today revealed in its graft perception index.

The country’s score remains the same as it was last year – 25 out of 100 – when Bangladesh ranked 14th in the world, TI’s local branch at in a press conference in Dhaka.

Bangladesh shares the 13th place with Guinea, Papua New Guinea, Kenya, Laos and Uganda, the report titled ‘Global Corruption Perception Index 2015’.

The report said North Korea and Somalia are the worst victims of corruption while Denmark emerged as the country that has the least amount of corruption.

In South Asia, Bangladesh is the second most corrupt country.

In order from least to most corrupted, the standings are: Bhutan, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

Government in Bangladesh is making worse the corruption scenario by clamping down on the civil society, the report said.

The evaluations were made among 168 countries of the world.

Revealing the report, TIB Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman said: “We are not satisfied with the position. We could do better and we have the potential.”

There are many laws and policies in Bangladesh, but there are lacking in the implementation of those, he said during the briefing at the capital’s Dhanmondi today.

“Deficit in effectiveness, independence and promises of Anti-Corruption Commission are among the perceive factor behind the lack of progress,” he remarked.

Hasina Wajid Govt. is the main hurdle to developing a corrupt free, developed Bangladesh.

Like BNP govt was somehow a beacon in less corruption drive? :omghaha:

Their entire political and bureaucartic set up is a main hurdle....dont need to single out one person or party.

As long as the administration is politicized the way it is, the demagoguery is not going to stop.

Having said that - BNP was not any better. On top of that - no concrete development was done other than the Jamuna bridge and a few other 'token' projects. Too busy stealing funds.

You can be corrupt, which people can handle. And I am not whitewashing AL corruption at all.

But not getting needed jobs and development done is inexcusable.

BNP failed in that regard.

I think during BNP rule BD was 1st or 2nd
in corruption ranking.

BNP wasn't any better? It was decidedly worse.

BNP apologists trying to rewrite history...your madam made us multiple time world champs in corruption.

AL has nothing to rejoice over...but under BNP we were repeatedly No.1.

Anyway...when it comes to corruption, I for once wish to move away from the partisan diatribes...I don't blame BNP/AL automatically for corruption.

When my neighbor pays the meter man to mess with the electricity readings in order to pay less or when people show a 7 story apartment building as a tin shed...it's not just the govt to blame, but the average citizen.

The govt is an easy scapegoat for all ills in Bangladesh...there is next to no personal responsibility.

Reminder for the goldfish -

BNP-JAMAAT in power from 2001-2006

Bangladesh again tops list of most corrupt countries

Bangladesh for the fifth consecutive time has been billed as one of the most corrupt countries in the world by Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index 2005.

This time Bangladesh and Chad have been jointly put on top of the list both having 1.7 points out some 159 countries of the world.

Bangladesh was put at 158th position while Chad in 159th position with the same points.

Last year, Bangladesh and Nigeria jointly topped the list of corrupt nations.

In 2001, Bangladesh was first placed at the top slot among the most corrupt countries by Transparency International, raising widespread controversy and condemnation.

5 consecutive times No.1 under BNP...the audacity of BNP-JAMAAT supporters to talk about corruption

Pakistan seems to have improved alot in corruption index over the last few years. As for BD if i am not wrong there is so much corruption that the government has banned any outgoing money on western union or money gram.

Sri Lanka should top that list, Corrupt to the core

BAL scums ruining the country
This Hasina government is the least corrupt since 1990. BNP with Tareq was the shameless champion that we never seen before.

Sri Lanka should top that list, Corrupt to the core
Its not the quantity of corruption but the perception of corruption. People in Bangladesh don't expect anything to get done by government official without bribes. If any official refuse to take the bribes then people automatically anticipate that their application will be rejected regardless.
