Not a very big change .. Except for the drum may?? Or the optics/telescope... Or the handle to carry it around .. Which PA is also using (NV optics for night firing)...

Did you ever operate this machine gun ? All the things which you have named are big change for Soldiers !


In my Army time I have operated both versions the MG-3 and the upgraded MG-3MG 3KWS.

by the way thats me ^^

For me all the listed points by you are battle advantages which may could help be to kill the enemy faster and precise.



1.drum- is better than belt, because belt get dirty very quickly and JAMS

2.optics- with that I can aim faster and more accurate than my enemy

3.handle - is perfect because it is easier and more comfortable to carry the machine gun.

Such in this situations:

Underarm Firing Position. This position is used almost exclusively when moving in and around the objective during the assault, when a heavy volume of fire in the target area is required, and when rapid movement is not necessary.




Se how this Pakistani Soldier is handling the MG-3, his hands can be burned when he fires more than 100 round because the barrel gets very hot and it is very difficult to aim at the target without the handle ! Notice also the hanging ammo belt !

Yes I have .. Heavy on the recoil though...

In my Army time I have operated both versions the MG-3 and the upgraded MG-3MG 3KWS.

Yes belt can get jammed but you drum also reduces capacity .. Less bullets?.. MG-3 mounted on a vehicle with a ammo box is still bette than the one with a 100? Bullet drum... Or a soldier carrying a few hunted rounds belt still beats a drum .. Although a drum mag is a good thing/add on but not really a big modification and can be done easily by POF guys... Same goes for the handle (although there isn't a big need for it when you are carrying it on you shoulder with a sling thing...


Also those are just pics (really old ones) in battle a soldier would handle his weapon like this:


As for accuracy .. Machine guns are hardly as accurate as a sniper .. On a mount or a tripod can be accurate but not much when it's carried by a soldier ...due to its recoil.. Here is a little modification POF has done barrel for reduced recoil,muzzle flash and some accuracy:



Here is an old pic of a Pak soldier with an optic telescope for the MG3..(there are quiet a few pics of PAK soldiers with such goodies from operational areas):

IDEAS has become a waste of time and a self-display exhibition only. Companies that display there brands do so out of courtesy (as they already have large contracts sustaining with the Armed Forces). Extremely few new companies come in (they do not come back afterwards either). No contracts are announced to boost the viability of IDEAS. Location of the exhibition & entry to it is a mess and a nightmare. Only ego's of a few Generals are actually polished. IDEAS mother organization is DEPO that is run by end-of-the-career officers. Ask any company AFTER the IDEAS the questions, "Was it Worth It?'' and they will reply NO! So the main purpose of having a professional arms exhibition is never served.

On a high note, it only a good photo op for general public, like a Defense Day Show on military bases. Take photos, smile, hold weapons in hands, smile, drink Pepsi, go home and post on FB and PDF!
