What's new

New Thunder with 9 Hardpoints

so our boy can take 6 BVRs now that great,,,,,,,,,,, But just look at those fuel tanks (if they are),,,,,,,,,,,, Both are different in shape ,,,,,,,,,

Not the wing hard point but a well designed dual launch rail installed with single hard point. Seems like camera view, actually represent it as an additional hard point. If to go by the logic of additional hard point, does not looks as it appears but speaking of dual launch rail is possibility. Either the hard point or dual rail, it serves the purpose and advertising the same actually tells that this beasty is growing further. By the look of missiles displayed, both are different by the look for ASHM and BVRAAM.
Additional hardpoints would require the ribs to be removed and additional higher load bearing ribs to be installed. The additional weight would have some effect on performance but not too much. This also depends of which ribs. So stressing will most probably slow down the work. However the current scenario of dual rack is much better as the original hardpoints was probably design to carry heavier payload so carrying two sd10 or other air to air missiles would probably be no issue. Drag may have to be checked

Conformal fuel tanks would be so the way to go

It has been reported that wing root strengthening work is already done hence, we may see more payload carrying capability. I see these dual racks as a result of the same statement in back days. Installation of a whole new wing hard point (very less possibility for the size of an aircraft like JF-17) may need more work, time and energy as compare to dual rack solution. However, in both scenarios like additional hard point or dual rack, the weight would be increased with a bit of difference compare to both scenarios but as said, every ounce counts and matters though, if the purpose is served then it is all good.

guys now there can be 11 weapons loaded as we can se that an extra hp is available on which pl5e is loaded and dual rack and then antiship

this one

I wonder if this will slow the plane down, decrease maouverability, increase RCS?

Or is the extra load negligable?

Any news on the new AESA radar? Now that it can carry more firepower thanka to the dual racks, imagine the possibility with an AESA radar. This thing should surpass the F16 by a long shot.
Wonder if this alone was the reason Khawaja Asif was so confident when he made the statement of dropping US as a supplier altogether?

That's good that the wing root has been strengthened. However the bending load will be in the front and rear spars. I am sure the additional load due to the dual rack will not impact the performance as the single hardpoints was probably designed to carry a heavier bomb than the combined weight of two sd10 plus the rack.

the nose of plane in this photo looks different may be fatter... or is it just the angle?

the yellow lines on nose are new....

But they did strenthen wings...
of which block they strengthen wing? Block 1 is already flying in the air and units of Block 2 are also flying in the air.

as OP says wings of Thunder has been strengthen to carry more load..
Question: Did all manufactured Thunders will again go to assembly line or that that will be implemented in block 3 and trainer?
