ISLAMABAD: After refusal of Sweden, the Pakistani engineers completely overhauled the Awacs plane that was destroyed by terrorists during an attack while Azerbaijan, Zimbabwe and Cameroon also showed interest in purchasing super MASHAK aircrafts. Nigeria would buy the JF 17 thunder.

This was disclosed by the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex Chairman Kamra Arshad Malik on Wednesday in a Standing Committee on Defence Production that met in the Parliament House under the Chairmanship of Khawaja Sohail Mansoor. He said that four aircraft have been handed over to Nigeria while 52 aircraft will be provided to Turkey. Qatar will also purchase a Super Mashak from Pakistan and agreements have been signed with them. It was one of the best trainer aircraft in the world and economical to boot.

He disclosed that JF 17 Thunder aircraft is the future of PAF and it was the one of the best assets of the PAF .70 JF 17 Thunders have been inducted in the PAF so far and state of the art technology has been used in this. The Committee appreciated the peerless performance of former COAS General Raheel Sharif, especially his concentration towards Zarb-e-Azab, China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and Line of Control (LOC) situation. The Committee paid homage to his unsurpassed efficiency and excellence being a courageous Commander of Pakistan Army.

The Committee Members have stated that he took the Pakistan Army to the leading edge of the world. The Committee Members passed their best wishes to General Qamar Javed Bajwa, the new Chief of Army Staff.

isn't this old news now??

Saw the Saab plane in Mahaaz Show of Wajahat Saeed

can someone describe why Sweden refused? Dont they want us in a long term relationship ?

Atleast one thing is clear that many of US allies are not going to sell big military hardware to Pakistan.

Pakistan will have to learn how to be self sufficient in many fields & they are doing a good job. Turkey, Russia, Ukraine & China are the best choices for Pakistan & Pakistan should stick with them.

I am happy to learn that our engineers did a great job & completely repaired the damaged AWACS.

It was not a political statement.
Pakistan is not considered to be "safe" for Western Engineers, so noone wanted to go.

The EriEye are Jet aircraft ???

So what do you make of Pakistan having repaired the AWACS themselves?

Another wise lesson indeed. A bigger problem is spares and maintenance, but our engineers being able to overhaul a badly damaged AWAC says a lot. Pakistan should always invest in capabilities which are sanction and blackmail proof.

That Pakistan was lucky that the planes/equipment were not damaged beyond repair.

Perhaps, but we did a good job of fixing the aircraft. I wonder how this will affect the future relationship between the supplier and buyer. Pakistan will invest in alternative options to complement Swedish AWACS for sure. Also, fixing the aircraft is very beneficial for Pakistan. Our engineers must have learned a lot of details about the aircraft.

I think Chinese technology is catching up fast with Swedish technology, may be in years to come we may not be dependent on West to that an extent.

I believe Pakistan has already acquired Chinese AWACS which are more than satisfactory.

That's a small technical achievement for Pakistan..i wish we had invested more in the field of research and development so that we did not need to bear "nakhras" of these ugly people. As Pakistan has already acquired the skills to manufacture MF-17 Supermashak so Pakistan should make a new A/C with a different name but with same specs and stop paying any license fee to Sweden. But that needs balls and a head and we lack both.
