Pakistani engineers overhaul AWACS jet bombarded in attack

That's a small technical achievement for Pakistan..i wish we had invested more in the field of research and development so that we did not need to bear "nakhras" of these ugly people. As Pakistan has already acquired the skills to manufacture MF-17 Supermashak so Pakistan should make a new A/C with a different name but with same specs and stop paying any license fee to Sweden. But that needs balls and a head and we lack both.

Hacking and stealing technology means no one will sell you tech in the future..also updates and support will stop..what differentiates India and Pakistan is the factor of quality.

No you don't steal in a naked way..you do it...the right way and the whole world does that. World needs money, furthermore, get self reliance..

never did

apparently everyone including swedes think india is gold mine, and they dont want to make india unhappy, once they are given a troll like what french got, they will come to senses
The AWACS affair has nothing to do with India.
I know people working for SAAB and discussed it with them some time ago,
and noone was interested in spending time in Pakistan.
Did Pakistan offer to ship them to Sweden for repair?

For people wondering why Sweden refused this link should help (http://www.nyteknik.se/nyheter/saab-kan-fa-ny-order-men-teknikerna-tvekar-6404162). Its in Swedish but translate using google. Basically the gist is that in 2013, no engineers from SAAB wanted to travel to Pakistan given the security situaiton.

Things post zarb e azb have changed now however. On my flight to Lahore earlier this year, I met a Swedish guy working for Telenor. So as things stabilize in the country, the security factor will diminish. Either way Pakistan did a good job of repairing it on its own

Today's industry has in recent days revealed that three radar plane model Saab 2000 defense group Saab previously sold to Pakistan seriously injured in a terrorist attack. On August 16, 2012, a group of Taliban fighters into an air base Kamra, several mil outside Pakistan's capital Islamabad. DI say they attacked three Saab 2000 aircraft, which was equipped with the Swedish-developed radar system Erieye. The plan had been manufactured by Saab in Linköping and the Erieye radar built by Saab in Gothenburg.Reportedly DI destroyed one of the planes completely while the other two received serious injuries. Military of Pakistan stated the same day that a military aircraft injured in a rocket attack.
On August 21, the country's defense minister said that one of its Saab 2000 aircraft, the Saab 2000 AEW & C (Airborne Early Warning & Control) has been lost. Pakistan bought in 2006 four Saab 2000 aircraft from Sweden for more than 7 billion, of which three with Erieye radar. The contract was then carried out with the help of Swedish government export credits. The first plane was delivered in 2009 and the remaining years 2010-2012. According to DI, the company after the attack now count on new deliveries of maintenance and spare parts to Pakistan, worth 1-2 billion.

Meanwhile, sources for new technology that Saab has been difficult to recruit engineers who want to work in the terror stricken country because of security risks there. Foreigners who have been active in Pakistan has previously been targeted by the Taliban.

The country has been in was also rocked by bombings since militant Sunni Muslims with ties to al-Qaeda and the Taliban carried out attacks. Sebastian Carlsson, Head of Saab, would not disclose anything about the situation in business discussions with Pakistan. -Bolaget Never comment on any future deals, he says. As to the question whether he can confirm that it has been difficult to recruit staff to Pakistan, he said that the company always needs to hire and that this year needs to hire 500 new people. The latter is mainly due to the large order from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration on new fighter aircraft, the Gripen E.

2007 stopped the ISP, the ISP, arms exports from Sweden to Pakistan, citing violence and unrest in the country. While the Authority accepts deliveries made as a result of earlier weapons contracts. In 2012 was carried out according to the ISP's own statistics five deliveries due to Pakistan at a total value of 615 million.

OK some old pic of the said AWACS after completion of "overhaul" (might be during testing & evaluation phase) which was posted at the forum but got deleted during the time forum came under cyber attack.

so it means that Pakistan was able to fix 2 of the 3 planes while 3rd one is lost. is PAF wanting to replace the lost air frame with a new one

No engineers from out side no worries the job got done in house and that's what matters plus for cheaper the price so what's the fuzz about ? seriously.

If the aircrafts have returned back to their baseline performance than sure our engineers have done an excellent job.

I do hope that they wouldn't be parked as sitting Ducks. A lesson which must have been learnt after Mehran incident aiming to safeguard our valuable assets.

Serious measures have taken place and still are too make sure that doesn't happen again !!

Erieye was just the beginning, the damaged P3Cs are also being repaired at home without any foreign assistance.

Enjoy the perils of having a self sufficient aviation industry and who knows what more is to come.

The hardest part to manufacture in a jet plane is the power plant or engine. Rest is not easy if one wants to have a quality machine.

The agreement was that this was a one-off defense deal with Sweden; they didn't want to become a regular supplier of arms to Pakistan
I think they are changing there mind because they participated at IDEAS 2016 and they also displayed there weapons including Carl Gaustav during IDEAS. They also reported few days back that few customers are testing Carl Gaustav I think one of them could be Pakistan.

Hi,

The reason the swedes got hesitant because they were looking for the indian market---as it may not happen---they have lost on pakistani money---and they might want to lay claim to some of it.
