PPP warns govt against campaigning for Kalabagh dam

Imran Khan is indeed playing to the gallery here. He is u-turn, very opportunist. His opinions have no bearing since his promises is not rock solid. I doubt he is serious about Kalabagh dam since the chairman of PTI is Pervez Khattak who actively opposed Kalabagh damn during all those years. Inside PTI circles, those who are campaigning against Pervez Khattak for the allegation of corruption are being brushed under the carpet with the help of Imran Khan. That show on what extent to Imran Khan is willing to go for Pervez Khattak. Forget PTI. Its opinion on kalabagh damn is irrelevant since it has no intention to support Kalabagh, if anything, it will be first to support TTP for the purpose of destruction of Mangla damn that is left in Pakistan. Thank for sharing. @Muhammad Omar

“People of Larkana, I assure you: as long as the people of Sindh do not decide that if the dam is constructed their water will not be stolen, (Kalabagh) dam will not be constructed,” he told a large crowd of party members and supporters who had turned up to listen to the cricketer-turned-politician at a public meeting in Ali Abad village of Bakrani taluka.

You need to look at the bigger picture dude.

He stated:-
"as long as the people of Sindh do not decide that if the dam is constructed their water will not be stolen, (Kalabagh) dam will not be constructed"

I have heard many times by your leaders that Sindh & KPK water won't be stolen so if it is true than govt should go for a All parties conference and assure them that there water won't be stolen, simple. Not PTI but others are doing politics on Kalabagh dam. Khattak is ready for kalabagh dam all he want is to address their reservations.

Build Kalabagh but address our reservations first, says KP CM

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has said that his province will have no objection to the construction of the Kalabagh dam, if their reservations are addressed.

Speaking at a news conference on Saturday, Pervez Khattak called for the formation of a commission on the Kalabagh dam issue. “We will have no objections on the construction of the dam if our reservations are redressed,” he said.

He claimed that he would provide electricity to the entire KP province, at half the price, if the federal government supplied 13.5 per cent of the electricity as has been laid out in the constitution. He said that the federal government owed trillions of rupees because of royalty.

The chief minister further claimed that the KP government can generate electricity at Rs 8 per unit, as compared to the federal government that is generating it at the high price of Rs 18 per unit.

To a question, he said the KP government is doing everything that it had promised, adding, “We are rectifying the system in the KP, and have eliminated corruption.”

“I had got the province which was being ruled by law of the jungle, but now everything has been settled down, and every task is being done on merit,” he said.

Responding a query, he called upon the federal government to issue NoCs to foreign investors to invest in the KP and assured that the provincial government would take responsibility for their security.

Replying to a question, he said that notices have been issued to three PML-N leaders, including Mirza Hamid, Danyal Aziz, and Tariq Fazal Chaudhry for leveling baseless allegation against the KP government.

The chief minister said that ‘Naya Pakistan’ will not be created with merely the construction of roads and bridges, “but with good governance.”

Referring to the development projects in the province, he said they are being built swiftly.

Khattak claimed there is no law and order situation in the province.

“I myself come out of my home alone without security as the situation has improved considerably,” he said.

So what is the objection to building this dam. All i hear is that it will have so much positive affect on Pakistan, like production of electricity, storage of excess water, flood control etc etc.....but i can't find any logical reasons for not going ahead with the construction of the dam. Can anyone please elaborate for me?

Simply dear, its the dirty politics and being anti Punjab.

u can include pmln in the list because if mian saanp wanted to build kalabagh dam or even tried to start it he could have done it inn him 3 governments.

Plmn last two tenures were of 2 years and 2.5 years.
NS announced the kalla bagh dam construction after nuclear tests but after that ANP quit the government and then musharaf came up with his martial law.

PMLN is not serious in making the dam . They are using this issue bcoz they know that how Sindh and PPP would react . This would decline their support in PPP protest in punjab

Kid, He was chief minister. Chief minister can't decide or start a project which involve two provinces. It is decided in council of common. Interest by a 4 provinces. If I accept your logic then IK should make kala Bagh dam since he is in powerin KPK.

Grow up kid.

It not about the protest, it about getting NOC from council of common interest for this dam.
Which is not possible.

Three Questions:

1) How much water would it store?
2) How much electricity would it generate?
3) What would be the total cost of this dam?
Water storage 6.5 MAF
Power generation 3600MW
Cost 7 to 8 Billion dollar

Oh BhaiYou watch Pogo.

Finance minister can't decide or initiate dam projects in Pakistan.

Go and do some basic study on council of common interest and it's SOPs.

I'm not saying finance minister can decide . First of all u didn't know what he was. Secondly nawaz was not fit for the post still he got that ministry .shows how much influence he had on zia . Why didn't he influence him for a dam ? How many dams nawaz made in this 3 times PM ship

It should be renamed as Bagh Dam. Bagh means garden i.e. forests and greenery. It is most appropriate name.
