Argentine minister of defence Agustín Rossi had reached technical agreements with Israel to buy 14 IAI Kfir C.10 multirole fighters for the Argentine Air Force, but at the last minute the deal was put off for the next presidential administration.

According to various reports, the contract was thought to be worth about USD220-360 million. Given its magnitude for Argentina, Rossi decided to leave the contract for the next government.

The opposition party vying to lead Argentina stated that, if elected, it would begin its own evaluation process for a new fighter acquisition, taking into consideration all previous options.

Rossi received an Israeli government delegation on 10 November, but instead of signing the deal, he explained that the next government must make that decision.

Roughly the Argentinians would be paying in the range of $20 million per Kfir. How much does a latest block JF 17 cost?

The contract is thought to be in the range of $220 to $360. I used 290/14 which rounded up gives a $21m price tag. But this is a second hand plane and if they add a little more cash they can get a brand new plane but seems like they are totally broke if they cant even afford second hand kfirs.

Still, the Kfirs are better with AESA radars,Israeli EW suites and avionics.Plus, they're extensively MLU-ed jets,I think most AF's in the world would pick them over JF17's.

Kfir's latest block( In which Argentina is interested) are equipped with AESA radars and BVRs which makes them a good choice.

Besides, the Argentinian air force is used to flying very similar if older planes.

what need does Argentina need for such fighers?? a war with it's latin neighbors is near 0% the only reason they would want such fighters is to intimidate the Falklands or even strike them in the future.

the falklands are used as an escape goat for the crappy economy and government policies.

a dozen or evena few dozen advance fighters will not help Argentina. a change in government and it's policies is the only solution

in a long shot they could go for Gripen NGs that Brazil is buying/making, but those will cost near $100 million a piece

The only way they could get back the Falkands is if a coalition of SA countries headed by Brazil decided to help them. I don't see it happening under the current political and economic situation though.

With all the "supa upgrades" almost all sources are claiming 20 million or below...

Meanwhile JF-17 Block I was said to be around 25 million a pop.
Our lot in Baghdad stupid enough to think of the jf-17 with this price tag they could have bought at least 120 to fight terrorism and have some air defense but the they are dirty thiefs. they went to F-16 while they can't afford it.

true that. no one cares about Las Malvinas besides the Argentines and I am willing to bet even the average Argentine doesn't even care. it's more about pride then anything.

Uh, why? Granted, an AESA would provide the Kfir with substantial targeting and tracking capabilities, but until we juxtapose the capabilities of the subsystems of the two aircraft on a collective basis, we cannot determine whether one fits a country's circumstances over the other.
