Why Pakistan needs Israel

Hatred towards Israel and the refusal to recognise or establish diplomatic relations with this country is no new phenomenon to Muslim countries in Asia. This abomination is based on feelings of Islamic solidarity with Arab countries and a sense of religious belonging to the global Islamic community. In recent decades, Muslim countries have experienced an increase in radical thinking. A major factor for this emerging trend is the belief that Jews, Zionism, and Israel are anti-Islam, anti-Arab and pro-American. Radical Islamic circles exert pressure on their respective government to become involved in worldwide Islamic issues – above all, they want attention to be given to Palestine and they demand support for Arab countries’ struggle against Israel.

However in my opinion, this is a radical phenomenon.

I don’t see a single reason as to why Pakistan should not review its ties with Israel.

Why should we ban ties with Israel on the basis of the Israel-Arab conflict when many Arab countries have a good relationship with Israel?

We are taught two fundamental things in our history classes – that Israel and India are the enemy. Granted, we have been at war with India three times, but what’s wrong with Israel? Pakistan and Israel don’t have a conflict area and have never been at war with each other. What people don’t understand is that we are losing out by not maintaining ties with Israel.

If you think proposing good relations with Israel is a novel phenomenon, just take a look at Pakistan’s recent history.

History of Pakistan’s ties with Israel

Our history is inundated with meetings and good relations with Israeli officials.

The meeting in Istanbul between Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom and his Pakistani counterpart Khurshid Kasuri was not the only meeting between Pakistani and Israeli officials. Since the days of Pakistan’s first foreign minister, Sir Zafrullah Khan, every major Pakistani leader has taken a realistic approach towards Israel, interacted with its representatives, and even adopted positions that were consistent with Israeli interests.

It is not only Benazir Bhutto who was considered as pro-Western; Nawaz Sharif’s primer-ship in 1992 and 1997 are considered the golden time in Israel-Pak relations

In 1992, the Israeli delegation to the United Nations had to decide whether to support Pakistan’s election to the Security Council. Yaacobi favoured it, and after receiving permission from the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem, the Israeli delegation voted affirmatively. This paved the way to a series of interactions between Yaacobi and the Pakistani UN ambassador, Jamshi Merkar, who thanked the Israeli representative for his support.

Then, in 1993 vice-president of the World Jewish Congress, Isi Leibler, visited Islamabad between 12-16 February. This trip was coordinated with the foreign ministries of Israel and Australia (Leibler being an Australian citizen) and with the state department. Again, it was Pakistani ambassador Sayyidah Abidah Hussein who arranged a meeting for Leibler with Shahabaz Sharif. Leibler told him that a change in Pakistan’s approach toward Israel would help improve Pakistan’s deteriorating image in the United States.

At the end of the meeting, the two agreed that further contact between them would be arranged via Pakistan’s ambassador in London.

About two months later, on 19 April 1993, Leibler met with the Pakistani high commissioner in London, but it was ill-timed. Just one day prior to this, political changes had taken place in Pakistan and prime minister Nawaz Sharif had been removed from office.

A few years later, on 29 October 1998, Weizman met with Pakistani president Muhammad Rafiq Tarrar at a reception in Ankara marking the seventy-fifth anniversary of modern Turkey. According to press reports, Tarrar approached Weizman, shook his hand, and expressed his hope that “one day we will meet again.”

And then came the time of Gen Musharraf. On September 1, 2005, a public meeting was held in Istanbul between the then Israeli foreign minister Silvan Shalom and his Pakistani counterpart Khurshid Kasuri. Shalom was euphoric and said the meeting was a “source of great encouragement and hope for the Israeli people and aids in strengthening the moderates on the Palestinian side.” The Israeli journalists present were also swept up in the exaggerated excitement and called it a “historic meeting.” They said it was a Pakistani “gift” to Israel for evacuating its settlements in Gaza, which was taking place at that time.

Soon after, during a visit to the United States, Musharraf agreed to be the guest of honour at an American Jewish Congress dinner held in New York on September 17. Musharraf’’s speech on this occasion dealt with Islamic-Jewish relations throughout history. As for Israel, he repeated the familiar refrain that progress in relations depended on “progress in the peace process and the establishment of a Palestinian State.”

Thus, it is evident that in the past, Pakistan and Israel have enjoyed good ties.

Why we need to foster good ties

If we carry good relations with Israel it can help us win unfailing support from many developed countries – Israel has the strongest lobbying powers in the world. If Israel and Pakistan are on good terms, we can use this lobbying to foster healthy relationships with other countries, because other then Saudi Arabia, no major Arab country supports Pakistan.

The main factors preventing Pakistan from recognising and establishing diplomatic relations with Israel are solidarity with Muslim countries in general and with Arab countries. Fear of an adverse response by influential militants in Pakistan and internal instability.

It’s time to be practical. Just have a look at what we are losing out on by not having ties with Israel:

1. A very big market for Pakistani food, cotton and gems in terms of exports.

2. An advanced military market for Pakistani imports

3. A very advanced technology sector which can help Pakistan grow in agriculture, computer sciences, electronics, genetics, medicine, solar energy .

4. A strong Jewish lobby all around the world, which can help Pakistan raise its image as a friendly nation.

It’s time to face it; if we want a more progressive Pakistan, we need strong friends.

We are so wrapped up in what is good for everyone else, that we are losing sight of what is good for us as a nation. We need to drop our prejudices, be proactive and move to gain all the strong, influential friends that we can.

We should also keep in mind that our Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) did used to have peace talks with the Jews because indeed Islam is peace loving but if israel still doesn't bother then our message should be clear.
Do you need to constantly take an example what Muhammad did to do anything now?

So if Muhammad had not had peace talks with Jews, you would not do it either?

Pakistan would benefit from having relations with each country on the planet. Go for it. Dont bow down to Arab wishes and their affairs.

The same shit over and over again,,,,

NO, we have taken our stance, too many of our people hate jews for the occupation of Jerusalem

Trying to pass any such resolution in our Parliament would be near impossible (were more likely to be-friend india, atleast we are roughly the same people)

The prime minister who tries to push such a thing through will go the Salman Taseer way or atleast be hanging from his balls from a lamp post

With hatred of israel so high amongst the common man, how would we even think of recognising israel, even if we did it would bring no benefit as the average hatred is so intense any connection/collaboration etc would face immense opposition

With all the above why keep repeating the same thing over and over again, because a bunch of liberals who represent 0.0001% of the population want to???

They were formed the same time as us, look at their success, we might even bring some real prospects of peace b/w Israel and Palestine. Oh the Arabs fought 3 wars with no success. Get over thee "hatred" which has turned our once beautiful country upside down. Palestinians themselves let proxies run their "freedom struggle". iran backed Hamas and Saudi bankrolled West Bank. So many years and in the end my opinion, they deserve occupation. If after multiple wars and almost 7 decades they cant unite, then they can burn.

Where do you think we got F-16 spares during the sabctions. Backdoor channels through Israel.

And you go on threatening salman taseer bullshit, ive seen plenty of your kind being crushed under tanks :)

My request was to rip guys like you by attaching their limbs with tanks and just ripping you. The same way Uzbek govt did to mullas hell bent upon "jihad" and Islam. They all ran away to different countries. And they were just recently blown to smithereens by the air raid in NWA.

You an your empty threats.

:tdown::tdown::tdown::tdown:

Dont speak on behalf of us.

We dont have anything against Israel except Palestinian issue.

When Palestinians are ok with dealing with Israel we should not have any issue.

Boys,, we are a religious and very conservative society with a right wing streak..
accept it and deal with it
Our people dont like jews, Yes its because of Palestine, yes its because of Jerusalem rather then some sort of racial hatred but the bottom fact is you ask any group of random Pakistani's about jews/israel and you will get nothing but anger and negative responses

No Politician can go against the general feelings of hatred towards israel, otherwise WE WOULD ALREADY HAVE DONE SO

We are muslims,

Muslims fought for over 100 years to free Palestine from the crusaders, why would we give up after 60 with the jews, the number of muslims is increasing in israel, its increasing in Gaza, its increasing in the West Bank

There is no reason to give up,

If nothing else muslims are a resiliant and tenacious enemy

The same kaffir uzbeks will burn in hell as the scum they are, muslim will push back against all dictators that occupy their land and country

Assad, ghaddaffi, saddam said the same things and look where they are now

The thing about salman taseer is not that some guy killed him,,, its that the vast majority of the Pakistani nation just went "meh",, because he was viewed as a alcohol drinking liberal no one gave a shit about the guy being shot in the face, just remember that when you talk about the pakistani people

What is left in recognising, when your passport had words like valid for all countries except Israel.

I disagree....., why should Pakistan recognize Israel....?

Israel has an apartheid analogy with its treatment of the Palestinians..... & can be compared to the South African's treatment of non-whites during its apartheid era. The United Nations & Human rights groups across the world have criticized Israel's policies, some of which accuse Israel of committing crimes against humanity.

I mean imagine...,

Having your free movement denied by enclosed population centers, closed borders, regular curfews, roadblocks, checkpoints, electric fences, and separation walls. Having your homes regularly demolished and land systematically stolen to build settlements for encroachers in violation of international law prohibiting an occupier from settling its population on conquered land.

Having your right to essential services denied – to emergency health care, education, employment, and enough food and clean water. Being forced into extreme poverty, having your crops destroyed, and being victimized by punitive taxes. Having no right for redress in the occupier’s courts under laws only protecting the occupier.

Being regularly targeted by incursions and attacks on the ground and from the air. Being willfully harassed, ethnically cleansed, arrested, incarcerated, tortured, and slaughtered on any pretext, including for your right of self-defense. Having no rights on your own land in your own country for over six decades and counting. Vilified for being Muslims and called terrorists, Jihadists, crazed Arabs, and fundamentalist extremists. Victimized by a slow-motion genocide to destroy you.

We Pakistanis... should not be innocent bystanders - we are obliged to do something to stop wrongdoings... Nowadays, there are many people who will not raise a finger to stop a crime or an offence from happening and this is not the characteristics of a righteous person. If we have the ability to speak out against such crimes or offences, then we must, no matter what the consequence may be.

Here are a couple of quotes for you....

"Every time we do something you tell me America will do this and will do that . . . I want to tell you something very clear: Don't worry about American pressure on Israel. We, the Jewish people, control America, and the Americans know it." - Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, October 3, 2001, to Shimon Peres, as reported on Kol Yisrael radio.

" ... we should prepare to go over to the offensive with the aim of smashing Lebanon, Trans-jordan and Syria... The weak point in the Arab coalition is Lebanon [for] the Moslem regime is artificial and easy to undermine. A Christian state should be established... When we smash the [Arab] Legions strength and bomb Amman, we will eliminate Transjordan, too, and then Syria will fall. If Egypt still dares to fight on, we shall bomb Port Said, Alexandria, and Cairo." " David Ben-Gurion, May 1948, to the General Staff. From Ben-Gurion, A Biography, by Michael Ben-Zohar, Delacorte, New York 1978.

"We must use terror, assassination, intimidation, land confiscation, and the cutting of all social services to rid the Galilee of its Arab population." Israel Koenig, "The Koenig Memorandum"

Assad, Ghaddafi and Saddam were strictly against the state of Israel. Your point makes no sense on this. 2 of these leaders actively conspired against Pakistan, Saddam and Ghaddafi. Assad is cool with us.

Egypt, Jordan have fought wars with Israel and yet they have embassies opened. Saudi has semi formal relations through US. You realise India is cozying up with Israel, dont burn this bridge now. No one is asking us to be chums with them.

Muslims fought multiple wars in the recent history not for Jerusalem, but for their own designs. The Iraqi leader wanted his power, the Jordanian his own, the Egyptian had their own plans so did the Saudi. The Arabs do not fight for religion, they fight for tribes and what not. They do not Why should we feel bad for Palestinians when i have yet to hear one objection by their leaders against India. Ajeeb hum chutye log hain, aag apnay ghar lagi bujhane kisi aur ke chalay hum.

State of Israel is real, there is now only a 2 state option left, get it before they encroach into free Palestine further. 3 wars with them only resulted in increasing the size of Israel by almost a 100%. You know we can actually help in achieving this goal. I agree with your opinion we fought off crusaders and such during the past but then armies were more or less equal then. You do realise Salah-din the great drank alcohol? He fought for and won Jerusalem. Is his fight any less useful because he drank? His personal life is not our headache, and we Pakistanis especially need to butt out of other's personal lives.

So what if a guy drinks alcohol, his opinion may be less perceptive but is he wrong? Agar baat sahi hai to theek hai, chahay liberal kahe ya yahuudi. Doesnt matter in the end, duniya ki gali kyun hai musalman? I travel around the world so i am very well aware of their concerns. They are right most of the time, why do we support groups like Afghan Taliban yet are against TTP. The Afghan T is just as brutal in Afghan as the TTP is in Pakistan. You dont have answers, when we cry wolf about RAW, yet we support LeT and the likes.

Do you get it? We elect the same old leaders and cry why we arent better. Yet we cry hue when they indulge with US. I was at defence club in Lahore and there came this long convoy of cars and pulce mobiles. Turned out some relative of a minister, ajeeb dramay bazi. To think about it, i am a way way bigger deal than him, but i dont see the point in this showbazi.

See we elect these people, they arent conservative by any sense, not even maulvis man. Fazlu ka beta amreeka main rahta aya hai, aur kitnay maulvion k bachay, I move in such circles. Trust me whenever an Islamic issue is hot in the politics there is always a bigger story under wraps. Always, just check the time lines man.

We werent conservatives since independence to 70s when shit hit the fan. We were the Asian tigers, the leaders of the Asia. South Korea took understudy of our financial systems. Then started the policy of appeasing to maulvis. And here we are. The problem is we are blackmailed too easily on anything Islam. Salman Taseer was killed, but was he wrong? Nopes, he said if a law that is only misused ( Not a single case of blasphemy is GENUINE, not a single case) then it should be changed. What would matter if you add a clause that the accuser should face punishment should his intentions are misguided. Nopes, you kill that guy.

Do you really think Allah will like someone to be killed over something there is NO hadith or Ayah? Come on an religious conservatism aside, its the enlightened diaspora that moves a country forward not the diaspora which can only see the world through poking holes in the Quran ( so to speak ). If you have read a little history, Sir Syed was fed of this same crap by the maulvis then. This is a pattern, and now we are stuck in quicksand. Grab the rope or we get sucked in.

Its not about liberals or what not, the maulvis decided that DNA evidence is not enough to commit rape cases and the false accusers of blasphemy victims are unpunishable. Yeh to bc haal hai inka, why appease these assholes?

If the two state solution comes into reality then we should recognize Israel. However I do not see that happening as Israel insists on building illegal settlements in what is recognized by the UN as the Palestinian territories.

I think once a Palestinian State is created (officially) and their reality is 100% recognized by world community Pakistan would reach out and the 2 would establish relations

politically its hard to imagine that happening before that condition is met - though the 2 countries do indeed have contact behind closed doors on a need-basis

I think Musharaf tried to do that when he was president, but seems like Israel not interested to deal with Pakistan, as he already committed with India. I think Israel just want to support those countries which are anti Pakistan and Iran. One thing I don’t understand is that why USA support Israel?

the jewish lobby is united, and is wealthy.....wealth and influence pay for campaign contributions -- and campaign contributions alter priorities

rupert murdochs hold on global media sure was helpful too

Well at the point where you said Arabs will hate us isn't that happening already pakistanis getting treated badly in Arab states?
1.Arab ignorance has caused us to lose our identity in Middle east and are considered indians even though we're look different.
2.When pakistan made an embassy for palestine on the same day as Sweden did
Palestinians cheered for sweden but not pakistan since they're european wannabes.
3.Arab nations mostly quote the words of Gandhi but not Jinnah.
4.Recently they threatened us if we don't go to war in yemen.
5.Arabs never stood up for Kahmir but expect us to stand for syria and palestine.
6.Arabs have endorsed the indian culture and promote bollywood.
7.They want to break baloch too
8.They are still the same enemies that they were long before islam.
9............
10.Silence is their work.
11.Hate for Pakistan and its success is their jealously.
So i guess i stand with israel and support its existence even if palestine exist they will be the same as those Kuwaitis.
I am a pakistani and i stand with israel!

Mossad agents are actively working in pakistan and you want to recognize them?No thank you

There are no Arab countries hostile to India so why insist on "solidarity" with them?
