Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Tanvir Mehmood Ahmed on Tuesday said that the whole of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has been made nuclear with the aim to giving it the status of a real deterrent force. “We have made the whole of PAF a nuclear force”, he said while talking to media after launch of a book titled “A new dawn of PAF” on PAF development during a decade till 2008. The PAF has achieved such a deterrence level that no one can cast an evil eye on the motherland, he said. Air Chief‑designate Air Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman (Deputy Chief of Air Staff perations), who will take over the PAF’s command on Wednesday was also present with the Air Chief Marshal Tanvir Mahmood Ahmed on the accession.

Air Marshal Rao is architect of an effective strategy to deal with the Indian threat of carrying out surgical strikes against Pakistan. Due to this strategy the adversary had to shelve its nefarious plan of surgical operations. Air Chief Marshal Tanvir Mehmmod Ahmed said that the country achieved nuclear power back in 1998 with the aim that the defence of the country be made impregnable and over the years PAF has been able to successfully achieve the target. “We fought two wars with India in 1965 and 1971 and prevented three imminent wars in 1998, 2002 and in recent days in the aftermath of Mumbai attacks.” India had threatened Pakistan of undertaking surgical strikes against her but seeing the level of preparedness and alertness of PAF the looming dangers from the adversary were averted effectively, which showed that the attainment of nuclear power has helped in achieving peace in the region.

“It helped deter any misadventure in the region.” he said. Answering a question, he said 95 % of PAF personnel and officers are not out to earn livelihood but they joined PAF with the passion to defend the motherland through obtaining mastery over the machine and ammo. Talking about the last ten years, the Air Chief said the PAF today is much more effective and potent force than what it was in 1998 and it shall continue to excel further with the passage of time. Earlier, making remarks at the book launching, the Air Chief termed all the sanctions imposed by the west from time to time in the past a s blessing in disguise saying “this helped us a lot to achieve indiginization of technology. It has brought us at the higher pedestal.” “We would have not gone nuclear. We are now a nuclear state and it is all due to the sanctions,” he said.

The co‑production with China of a modern fighter aircraft like JF‑17 Thunder is also an outcome of the sanctions. “We achieved all that with minimal spending while living within our limited financial resources.” About the book he said the author Alan Warne (Editor of UK based Air Forces Monthly) has written the book on his own as the PAF had facilitated the writer to carry out his work with an unbiased approach independently. He appreciated the efforts of the writer for creating a masterpiece within a short span of about 15 months. He said the book covers past, present and future of the PAF, presenting salute to heros of the force besides shedding light on future plans. He also appreciated the services of former Director Public Relations (Air) Air Commodore Sarfraz Ahmed Khan for facilitating the author for accomplishment of his task.

He also mentioned the DPR (Air) Air Commodore Humayun and his able team in the Directorate. Earlier, the author of the book said that the PAF during the last 40 years had been undergoing sanctions and despite all that what it has achieved is highly appreciable. PAF is the only air force of the world which has been co‑building modern fighter aircraft like JF‑17 Thunder, he said. Chairman International Relations Department of Quaid‑e‑Azam University Islamabad Prof. Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmed and Assistant Professor of Strategic Studies Quaid‑e‑Azam University also spoke about the book. A large number of senior officers of PAF attended the function.
Meanwhile, in an interview with a TV channel, the air chief said that during his tenure, several agreements, worth $9 billion, were reached with different countries to modernise the PAF.He said the Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) was being obtained from Sweden and China. He said agreements had been reached with the US to provide electronic warfare system, smart bombs and long-range missile system. He said air-to-air refuellers were being modified and after some time, its pilot programme would be matured. He said the PAF was the only institute in the public sector, which was totally online. At the moment, he said, there were 46 F-16 aircrafts in the PAF.And newer f16s will arive till mid of 2010 and option of more are on the table.

ASIAN DEFENCE: Whole of PAF made nuclear: Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Tanvir Mehmood Ahmed

i think its a very old article i read couple of months ago (probably an year ago)

what did he mean by this????

what did he mean by this????
He means only 5 percent join the PAF because they need jobs. The rest come to defend the country. Not interested in the benefits of PAF jobs.

And that with sanction we got a chance to build our own Aircrafts.

PAKISTAN AIR fORCE is on a right track .alot of changes and induction would be made in coming 4 to 5 years .

Can some one make it clear that how an airforce is made 'nuclear' especially in PAF referance.

I didn't get it how PAF can go completely nuclear. Does it mean they've tipped every missile with a nuclear warhead? or is it that they are capable of dropping nuclear bombs?

I don't think this article is accurate. It doesn't explain how an airforce can go nuclear. Can anyone explain?

Well he is talking it metaphorically. Meaning as it is said that if a country is nuke equipped, it has a minimum deterrence, as no one in its sane mind will try to attack and try to capture a nuke equipped country. Similarly, he meant that PAF has become nuclear in the sense, that it can not be annihilated or anyone in its sane mind will not attack it.

Read the second para of the article, it will give a good idea what he meant by the nuclear thing.

I know what going nuclear means. what I didn't understand was that how an air force can go nuclear?and that too whole as stated on the title.
nuclear division and air force are two different departments. There are no aerial nuclear weapons that Pakistan possesses that I know of. Or are there?

Sir Ji, that is what i tried to explain that what he meant by the nuclear thing. He did not meant the Nuclear weapons thingy, plz read the post again and see the link of what he meant.

And as for aerial nuclear tipped weapons, well we do have the normal air dropped nuke bombs, and i believe the Ra'ad cruise missile has also been nuke tipped or capable.

well my son

can you tell me why all world is taking tension just for your nuke

why every third person in pakistan talk about nuke fight

have you seen that news "

United States has in place a detailed emergency plan to secure Pakistan’s mobile arsenal of nuclear warheads, in case the nukes are in danger of falling into the hands of the Taliban, Al-Qaeda and other extremist groups.
According to the US intelligence sources, the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), the super-secret commando unit headquartered at Fort Bragg, has been given orders to remain prepared for action at short notice""

Yup would make a great Hollywood movie where Delta Forces swoop in, secure all the nukes and eliminate all the Pakistani soldiers guarding them without loosing a single of their soldier .

These things are great to read for entertainment but anyone who has studied Pakistan's Security for its Nuclear Program will know that neither the US nor Taliban can seize Pakistan's nukes. Not only do our nuclear reactors they have top Radar and SAM coverage, SSG commandos are deployed to protect these sites. Not to mention Pakistan has disperced its Nuclear Weapons through out the country, Hillary Clinton stated that the US was not aware where Pakistan has hid all of its nuclear weapons. I can see that Indian propaganda has taken its toll on the youth of India, i can assure you our Nukes are very safe :pakistan:

The PAF has been Nuclear since 1980s as we successfully modified battlefield nuclear weapons on the F-16s as early as 1987. The A-5s were already incorporated with this capability as they were inducted. So is the case with Mirages and another addition today is the thunder. The Air Chief disclosed it a bit late though!

yaa why not nuke is like candy in pakistan

even pak ranger goes nuclear

god know how will nuke will remain safe in pakistan

I don't think that is any of your concern nor business wat goes on in Pakistan and how safe our nukes are they are very SAFE stop trolling up flames to cause tension here make some sense .

I am not sure if the administrator or mods here have noticed that everytime a thread like this or any thread which boasts of Pakistani milestone, a barage of Indian members post messages in such a manner that it very quickly becomes a slanging match/or off topic issues which in the end gets the thread closed or deleted.

Mods need to take this into account and take some sort of action as I do not see why the threads should be closed because of a few corrupted members who cannot seem to see anything good for Pakistan and we all get to suffer as we cannot post and discuss issues with other like minded people.

This seriously needs to be looked at now......
