What's new

Burma is for Buddhists

Definitely. Remember also that the Burmese helped fight off the Chola a thousand years ago and received a tooth relic in return. Our countries are very much intertwined in culture and history. BTW a cashew in Burmese is known as a 'thihol si' or 'Sinhalese nut' :smitten:

Thats funny though "Sinhalese nuts".. They have plenty of them over there it seems these days especially with these elections coming around..

"Arakan" is the name of the place, not any ethnicity! Both the Rohingyas and the Rakhaine Buddhists mention "Arakan" as their native place, so even if the site shows results on "Arakan", what does it prove? We both agree the place called "Arakan" exists, aren't we?

Arakan, Rakhine and Yakhine are the same thing. Arakan is an alternative for Rakhine. In Burmese and in Rakhinhe language, the adjective is for the people and the land is named after them. So Arakan Pyi is the same as Rakhine Pyi which is the same as Yakhine pyi which all means 'The land of the Arakan/Rakhine/Yakhine'. And your Rohingya most definitely don't count amongst them. Now I don't think that means there should only be Rakhines in Rakhine but there should be limits and there are people there who are simply there illegally. In the democracy era, where the rule of law is paramount, the law states there are many who don't belong. Bangladesh should therefore be allowing the ones who want to go back to go back. On the reverse, the Marma and others from the Chittagong Hills are free to move back to Myanmar. Infact, it is even encouraged. I don't see what the problem on your end is other than that Bangladeshis are treacherous and conniving and won't accept your own peoples. Infact, I pity the Rohingya but I detest the Bangladeshis. They both deserve each other.

The term Rakhine was given by the Bamars when they occupied Arakan in 1785. Similarly, the Rohingyas call Arakan as "Rohang" from where the word "Rohingya" originated (literally meaning the residents of Rohang). Hence, Arakan, Rakhine,, Rohang are all same things.

And please, keep those stupid suggestions of population exchange to yourself, they are not going to be followed for sure! Better accept Rohingyas as your citizens, otherwise it will only hurt Burma by keeping it unstable.

Now why should we hand over our pearls to get some non valuable rocks?

We have been giving our population education for years and why should we take your non educated people.

Bangladesh is a diverse country unlike your moronic nation. Give half of Arakan and we can peacefully negotiate to take the rohingyas in our country.

It's good to see you call your own people rocks. Disgusting.

The Rohingyas are indeed deprived of their basic rights including education.

Also the education standard of Burma is questionable.

They don't send their kids to school. Particularly their daughters because your kind don't believe in equality. They'd rather send them to madrassas and that's why they don;t speak Burmese.

I agree it's questionable but for someone from a half literate country to start talking about education is laughable. You perceive education is high in your country because you come from a very low base and thus needed a lot of investment. I think literacy was at around 10% at independence for you. You have a history of illiteracy. We, on the other hand, do not.

No it isn't. Rakhine is a simple evolution of Arakan and Yakhine is the evolution of Rakhine. They are all interchangeable.

Good find BTW. The best line is a few lines down:

Both these tribes, by the real natives if Arakan, are called Kulaw Yakain, or stranger Arakan.

So the article pretty much makes all my points. Once again, you defeat your own point. Good form.

Call yourself whatever chini burman rakhine. You all look same.

As you cant differentiate between different ethnicity among us.

Bangladeshis are pearls dont care others.

They are deprived of education, without citizenship they can't send their kids to schools.

And yes, we have a history of illiteracy despite the fact that some of the most prominent ancient Buddhist learning centers are situated in Bangladesh.

The education standard of Burma is way below that of Bangladesh, that's a fact. Even the literacy rate put forth by the Bumese military junta is disputed.

Rakhine/Yakhine didn't evolve from Arakan, they are separate words but refer to the same thing. As I said, the land was always known as Arakan before the Bamars named it Rakhine. On the other hand the Muslims referred to the area as Rohang.

And the Kulaw Yakain referred to the Hindus in Arakan, not to the Rohingyas, read the article properly.

- You can dispute all you want. I am giving you facts. Your response is 'your facts are wrong', and 'our education is better'. Both things you pulled out of your ***.

- The article quite clearly states there are Muslims and Hindu derived people who are both called 'Kulaw Yakine' by the natives of Arakan. I don't see where your confusion is. Maybe you're showing your Bengali level of education?

-Thirdly. I am of part Arakan/Rakhine/Yakhine heritage and yet you're lecturing me about etymology? The only thing that changed was Akyab was renamed Sittway. Probably to honour the battle that took place there.

Edit: They certainly are not deprived of education. Infact, if these people send their kids to school, they can integrate better with the host culture. Something which I am not opposed to.

Even these days Myanmar sends its officers to Bangladesh for better education

They went on an English course for a few days as a glorified flag meeting and you people won't shut up about it. You're lucky they were they with friendly intentions.

As you dont know it was the second course of its kind. And its an ongoing course for every year.

No problems we will give you better and modern education which isnt available in your country

We should continue our age old bond to the future. We both needs each other.

We have shared values and cultures, along with the likes of Thailand and Cambodia. I've always had a soft spot for the Sinhalese.

As you dont know it was the second course of its kind. And its an ongoing course for every year.

No problems we will give you better and modern education which isnt available in your country

Your country is half illiterate. That's a fact. We are pretty much fully literate. That's another fact. No amount of friendly gestures are going to change that.
