On army chief's advise, govt to pursue talks with PTI, PAT again

According to sources the government on Thursday decided to approach both Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) after Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif advised Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to give talks one more chance.

A senior government official claimed that the army chief conveyed a clear message to both Dr Tahirul Qadri and Imran Khan to resolve the issue through dialogue.

The call for resolution of ongoing crisis came after a meeting between COAS and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif took place at PM House earlier on Thursday.

Army chief acting as a mediator? Why is he indulging himself in politics?who is calling the shots in pak?as long as army meddles with the functioning and decisions of elected govt, pak will never be able to become a true democracy.

Dude, you bet we all understood it. Who do you think is sitting at the other end? :D

Hint: Post Grad @ Ivy..................

I hope you guys understood the term "fruit cakes" from my post lol. Or ask some other American member or google it. You may not like it but it humerus in this case.

I'd do donuts and coffee and a bagel with creme cheese please. Can it get any more American than this? lol

American, you watch way too much Hollywood 'action-thrillers'...........:cheesy:
Personal advice, switch to Bollywood rom-coms!

I don't think its watching it. May be this is how it is??? I let you figure that one out. I don't like Bollywood, too much time and too much emotional drama. Somehow the girls parents still act like they did in the 50's. Girls in India are now a days like how American girls are, they do all kinds of stuff and love marriages without three hour of drama.

Plus falling in love after looking at a chick and then spending your life with her eyes and face in your memories is cheesy to me. If you like something, you should get it and enjoy it!

I knew you went to school in the US. Which IVY?

It was necessary to end the economy destroying march. Plus both Mullah and IK were hoping for a military take over so it was a smart move to let them hear that the boots are getting ready to go up their rear-end from the SAME military who didn't have a role in this thing.

Next, it was also important to save women and children as the government was getting ready to get these guys out as its causing disturbance across the entire country. Next, it also nicely gave some face saving to IK and to the Mullah AND end their political careers. A lot got done this way. This should've happened between the politicians but IK and Mullah wanted to get everything illegal and unconstitutional. But well done by the gov't and time to move on.

How in heavens did you know that????? o_O

I have strange magical powers  . My Ipad's battery is dying so good night. Keep up the democracy though :)

Sorry mods, I am off topic with this forum's big boss Hyperion on here. So I assume no one would ban me.

After begging army for rescuing out of the situation, MNS has clearly indicated that his government has no control over civil administration, police and rangers. Hence proved that his governance and authority is lost and he no more deserves to be leader of the house in Parliament. He should also peek back in history and recall the words his team mentioned in the case of GEO vs ISI. He should also remember on the first day of march he himself said that there cannot be any talks with TuQ and later resorted to sending his people to negotiate. He should remember the words of MSS which referred to dragging AZ on the roads with noose around his neck and then acting as his driver. In the light of all these facts he has also lost the moral authority to be Prime Minister of Pakistan. When both administrative and moral authority, if still he wants to hold the position, it is nothing more than HAT DHARMI. The whole situation also exposes the character and objectives of these politicians.

If anyone thinks that this is a victory for IK and PAT, you're mistaken.

These idiots should thank the military and the government for allowing them to save face

You really think that Nawaz out of all will allow IK to have a face saving when according to you he can literally thrash and take apart IK political career? How naive of you.
If Nawaz had any chance, he would have done it already by now.I dont know where are you getting your facts from but you are far far from reality.
Let me tell you this even if Nawaz manages to survive this, he will be no more than a ceremonial PM who the world isnt going to take seriously anymore. He has lost his grip and as a last ditch effort brought in army to let him save face. This is the same army he and his ministers use to bash and criticize army in national assembly and on tv. You really think army has forgotten that? However they do not wish to intervene directly when they are occupied in a war otherwise Nawaz would have got a boot up his rear a long time ago.
Nawaz is history. This is the new reality.

The government already agreed to 5 out of 6 of PTI's demands long before this development. The army was brought in to make sure both sides stick to any deal that's made, and make sure that a deal is made quickly so protests can finally end. The biggest issue that PTI had was that they believed NS wouldn't stick to any deal, so the army was called in to satisfy them, nothing more. The reason why PTI isn't a victor in this is that NS does not have to resign, which was PTI's first and main demand.

The army is acting as nothing more than a guarantor of any deal between PTI and the gov. Though, I'm against such a thing, as the army should not involve itself with political matters. However, I think I can understand why the army is anxious for a deal to go through, considering the war going on, and the risk of the country falling into chaos. The protests have gone on for far to long, and the army is understandably getting irritated, which is why they probably agreed to such a thing in the first place.

Hey, isn't that @Oscar!!! :D
i haven't seen him in person. But if it is true that Oscar look like him, he can easy bag Megan Fox ...

It's not about what NS wants, it's about what is required. NS is not an idiot, he knows that if he doesn't give IK a way out, these protests will never end, and the longer this goes on, the bigger a mark it becomes on NS' legacy.

You also give to little credit to the military, they don't care who's bashing them; The fact that Geo is still operating is evidence enough for that. What they care about is the situation that the country is in, which is why they've accepted this mediation role.

Wow. What a frail analysis.

1. Asking the army chief to intervene and serve as a mediator in no way reflects on the federal government's control of the civil administration. A handful of protesters led blind by the false promise of dawn are not the civil administration. They are protesters. MNS has lobbied the parliament to pass a majority resolution in his favour denouncing the unconstitutional demands of IK and TuQ. From the perspective of the federal government, MNS has entrenched himself therein and has the support base of not only the PML-N but also all the opposition parties with the exception of the rogue PTI - a support base which outnumbers PTI and PAT 100:1 Est.

NS has absolute control of the civil administration which is why we are all witnessing the ETO harass those seeking to enter Islamabad to attend the rallies, which is why the police cordons get tighter at the wave of a hand, which is also why when the King so pleases he chokes the cities dry of petrol and gas.

2. If he has lost any moral ground by seeking advice from the ex-President of Pakistan, then so have TuQ and IK by openly calling for bloodshed, disobedience, civilian revolt and declaring insubordination to the constitution. As a matter of fact IK and TuQ are teetering on the edge of political infamy in their attempt to achieve historical firsts.

3. NS's refusal to give up the reins of the cabinet is absolutely essential for posterity. The message being, this is not Egypt. We a are plural democracy and if there has been widespread rigging in the elections, then bring the proof, let there be an independent assessment of it and if found guilty then watch us pack up and leave. It does not get any more legit than that. I'm surprised you would hasten to ascribe HAT DHARMI to NS but spare both IK and TuQ the cane. They are equally as HAT DHARAM.

Despite having had all his demands fulfilled, IK cannot back down from his demand of the PM's resignation because he has trapped himself in a corner. Instead of asking for democracy and justice, the mantra he's been forcing down people's throats for the past 3 weeks is Go Nawaz Go. If Nawaz doesn't go, then IK's loyal flock stands dismayed, as does IK stand embarrassed before them. Say it with me, IK is equally as politically HAT DHARAM as NS. Whereas NS's refusal to yield is based on the continuity of the democratic process, IK's HAT DHARAMI is a reflection of his political aspiration and a matter of personal pride for him.
