LAHORE - Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan Hiroshi on Thursday said that many big Japanese investors are seriously planning to shift their units to Pakistan from India due to strong workers unions culture in India.
The Ambassador was speaking at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry. LCCI President Farooq Iftikhar highlighted the issues being faced by the businessmen while Senior Vice President Irfan Iqbal Sheikh, Vice President Mian Abuzar Shad, former presidents Tariq Hameed, Iftikhar Ali Malik, Mian Misbahur Rehman, former senior vice president Abdul Basit, former vice presidents Aftab Ahmad Vohra and Shafqat Saeed Piracha also spoke on the occasion. Hiroshi Oe said that the business environment in Pakistan is far better and it is a safer place as far as working conditions are concerned. The economy and infrastructure development are the priority areas and Japan government is focusing on them.
The Ambassador also stated that Japanese government has hosted investment seminars for Pakistan to further strengthen bilateral relations. “Japanese businessmen are being motivated for establishing business with their counterparts in Pakistan. He said Japan will continue to provide financial and technical assistance to Pakistan as we believe that this country has a great potential for the future.
There are spectacular development and investment opportunities in various fields as few countries are gifted with natural resources, the Ambassador said.
“Pakistan is facing difficult challenges which will be over soon,” adding that he will continue to strive to deepen mutual understanding through economic, educational, cultural and political exchanges.
Speaking on the occasion, the LCCI President Farooq Iftikhar said that Japan is third biggest and one of the trillion dollar economies of the world and is an important trading partner of Pakistan as well as a major donor. He said that availability of inadequate trade-related data is one of the hurdles in the way of expansion of trade between two countries.
The LCCI President said that export potential of Pakistan is great which may be shared with Japanese businessmen and investors. Frequent exchange of sector-specific delegations can make the representatives of private sectors explore the opportunities of trade and investment in Pakistan.
Japan is an important player for peace, progress, cooperation and stability in the world and its role in assistance to developing countries and regions is laudable.”
Farooq Iftikhar said that share of Japan in Foreign Direct Investment in Pakistan is very low despite the fact that the country has a unique standing in terms of its strategic location and countless investment opportunities.
Meanwhile, a high-powered six-member Polish Parliamentary delegation, headed by the Chairman of Polish Senate, Mr. Bogdan Borusewicz Marshal, Thursday visited Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry and emphasized the need for enhanced economic cooperation between Pakistan and Poland to boost trade and investment.
LCCI President Farooq Iftikhar presented the address of welcome to the Polish Parliamentary delegation.

I wonder what firms in specific want to move...

Yes! and there is also an eminnent threat of total indian destruction due to its dilusions about it's millitary power and sabre rattling and challenging gestures towards Chinese super power. Japanese units would be much safe and run by non-exploiting competent workers.

Japanese EPC jaint JGC CORPORATION was in Pakistan for 10 years and wanted to grow beyond 1000 person manpower mark but our ****** , selfish, moron thinking and Profit loving Executives forced them to leave paksitan .... i wish other japanese do well if they come here ...

Just move those manufacturing units out of Kerala and West Bengal, and everything will run smoothly.

No firm from Japan will move out of India to Pakistan. There is absolutely no possibility of that until there is a free trade area between Pakistan & India. Not happening soon. Japanese & other companies are primarily present in India to service the Indian market, not just as an export zone. If they were to move to Pakistan, they would be closing their Indian operations & that would simply make no financial sense. No Japanese company (atleast none major that I am aware of) uses its Indian plants to only do exports. Those are the only plants that theoretically can be shifted but shifting out of India, especially to Pakistan would almost certainly end any chance of selling in India. Seppuku (Harakiri) might have been a practice of many years ago, don't see Japanese companies eager to do that now.

Just the Japanese ambassador speaking the usual "feel-good" stuff.

just like all the other threads in which people are going to invest in this or that in Pakistan but nothing ever comes of these promises.

unless Pakistan undergoes a drastic change in its security status and the mindset the people there have , the chances of attracting invest are at best, slim.

the competition in india is getting tough n will continue to do so in the future whereas in pakistan its a win win situation for the foreign companies bcoz of the incentives being offered n also becoz they dn t face a stiff competiton frm the local companies
