It need not be. For e.g. People who believe in the Vedas fall under the Vedanta philosophy. There is dvaita and dualistic philosphy and advaita. then there is shaktism. The only thing which is common to all except the atheist part is that there is a singular being called the Para Brahman who is the supreme. Now how you call out to him/her is your personal choice. I am basing my rationale from history.

Korean War: USA had nukes, USSR had nukes, but they didn't use them against each other but neither did it stop each other from supporting the opposing armies.

Vietnam War: USA, China, USSR all had nukes, but that didn't prevent from assisting the opposing armies.

Yom Kippur War: USA, USSR, Israel all had nukes. But that didnt prevent USA from assisting Israel and USSR assisting the Arabs.

The introduction of Nuclear Weapons to the battlefield has prevented a war of conquest to a war of strategic aims in which the wars are limited in their scope but it does not prevent foreign powers from assisting their waring side.

Read some history before making such blunt assertions.
