The last time a Pak navy aircraft ventured ( supposedly) in to India air space we shot it down killing 16 Pakistanis. here is a brief description of what happened.

10 August ,1999
The French-built naval plane Breguet Atlantique (Breguet Br.1150 Atlantique) plane, flight Atlantic-91, c/n 33, of 29 Squadron was one of Pakistan Navy's frontline aircraft, used primarily for patrol and reconnaissance. Atlantic-91 left Mehran (Sindh province) Naval Base in Pakistan at 9:15 a.m. (PST). An Indian Air Force ground radar picked up the flight path of the plane approaching the International Border. Two IAF Mig-21 interceptor aircraft of No.45 Squadron, from the Indian airbase at Naliya in the Kutch region, were soon scrambled by the Indian Air Force. After a series of maneuvers—and a conflicting version of events from both sides—the two jets were given clearance to shoot down the Pakistani plane.[6] At 11:17 a.m. IST (10:47 a.m. PST), nearly two hours after takeoff from Pakistan, the Atlantique was intercepted and an infrared homing R-60 air-to-air missile was fired at it by Squadron Leader P.K. Bundela, hitting the engine on the port side of the plane. This resulted in the aircraft losing control and spiraling towards a crash at approximately 1100 hours PST and approximate location 23°54′N 68°16′E, killing all 16 on board the Atlantic-91, including five officers of the Pakistan Navy.

The incident was the Pakistan Navy's only loss of an aircraft to hostile fire in its history, and the biggest combat-related casualty for the navy since the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.

An Indian military chopper crossed into Pakistan's territory today. Pakistan could have done the exact same thing as we did with their naval aircraft but instead they acted responsibly and any potential clash was duly averted.

The point is we always blame Pakistan for terror blasts ,kargil etc. But sometimes even an enemy can teach a lesson.

Thank you Pakistan for returning our crew.

"India should learn a lesson from Pak army". Does that mean we try to do Mumbai like attack in Pakistan ? Are you suggesting we should find and send jobless people to Karachi and shoot people there ? That is not good bro !

Take the good things and not the bad ones. All i am saying is while blaming Pak for bad things we should also keep a note of good things. May peace prevail :toast_sign:

There is no good thing and bad thing here. We voted for their UN seat. In turn they reciprocated by releasing our chopper . You see, it is as simple as that ! Now if you can stop being all emotional

In the Atlantique incident, the PN aircraft did not respond to the instructions of the IA fighter. It was only then the decision to shoot it down was taken. In this incident, the helicopter crew followed the instructions of the PA fighters.
There is a difference between the two incidents on what the crew did and the consequences differed too.

I expect the intent of this post was good but the example quoted is out of place.

One does not wish to get into discussion on the two incidents however the point to note in ' there are no coincidences' in international politics as there are none in life.

Each incident had a reason , background and ( potential) fallout.

When did this incident happened ? I don't recall anything like this. If there would have been any such incident, there would be another Indo-Pak war.

But thanx Pakistan for the release of our soldiers.

Atlantic-91 incident happened at the time of kargil war..there is no comparision to that incident with the present case..

if we just look around during a year there will be over 100 air space voilations happened on both side on LOC or on borader areas...

the reports in pakistan media about force landing were wrong , the chopper landing on other side of the LOC due to bad weather as the GPS system not working ...

There is no linkage between the UN vote and release of our helicopter. We voted for them because they voted for us. It was a reciprocal arrangement. The release of the helicopter followed a 12 minute conversation between the two DGMOs on the hotline and similar efforts on the foreign ministry level and once the Pakistanis were convinced that the helicopter had strayed across due to an honest navigational error and was not spying. Dammit, all these Cheetah pilots have for navigation in these mountains is a portable GPS!!! It is really surprising that we do not have many more of them getting lost every month.

It is childish to bringing the shooting down of the Atlantique into the equation as the Atlantique incident followed the Kargil war and had a lot to do with the Pakistani conduct in that war.

This helicopter incident shows that India and Pakistan have a lot to gain by keeping the channels of communication open and handling events in a mature and friendly manner. A military to military contact with Pakistan is a must for India. India is grateful to Pakistan for resolving this matter in such a mature manner and returning our boys so promptly. India will definitely reciprocate when the need arises.

The problem at that time was that the time was a very bad one between India and Pakistan,we had been backstabbed at that time due to Kargil all the armed forces were real angry especially due to the Lt. saurabh Kalia incident and when conflict is there or it has just ended both sides have orders if aircraft strays into hostile land give warning else shoot it down.

Now relations are atleast better than kargil time hence nothing happened.

both of the above post's does have a point i hope india, pakistan ties improve for the better & may peace & friendship prevails between them .

no doubt, that was during "Kargil".. believe me, even the Indian helo would have been shot down... no questions asked...

and that was 12 years ago.. today, all said and done, relations are in a better state. and today no force will shoot down other's aircraft just like that..

and then finally, Thank U pakistan for showing sanity and sensibility.. We never know, had they shown some knee-jerk reaction, it could have snowballed into something real serious....

Again you are implying Pakistan govt and establishment sent those men....
