An Israeli missile system intercepted two rockets fired from Gaza on Thursday in the first known use of Israel's Iron Dome anti-missile shield, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.

The new weapon, deployed last month to protect southern Israel, was launched as fighting flared after Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip fired an anti-tank missile which hit an Israeli school bus, wounding two people.

"Our Iron Dome anti-missile system intercepted two projectiles successfully," Netanyahu said at a Prague news conference during a visit to the Czech Republic.

Two interceptor missiles were fired at the rockets which appeared to be heading toward the Israeli coastal city of Ashkelon, just north of the Palestinian territory.

A Reuters photographer witnessed the missiles being shot into the sky with a deafening roar as they headed toward their target.

One missile was seen homing in on a rocket and destroyed it in mid-air.

Indian scientists are on the path to develop an airborne missile-intercept system that employs high-powered lasers to destroy missiles during their boost phase.

The Laser Science & Technology Center (Lastec) at India’s secretive Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has been building up technologies that can intercept missiles early in their flight.


Recently, India also tested a laser ballistic missile defense system. The laser weapon is capable of producing 25-kw pulses that can destroy a ballistic missile at a range of 7 km (4 mi.). One of these weapons is the air defense dazzler, which can engage enemy aircraft and helicopters at a range of 10 km.

that means we have to cover whole of the India not just Delhi.

No we just have to cut their missiles down in the boost phase and any that do escape that we can hit with our interceptors

The current PAD is obsolete(though the AAD is great)for interception role due to it's liquid fuelled.DRDO must make ready the PDV asap.With its hypersonic speed of mach 7-8 and 160 km interception altitude,it can shoot down 3500 km range IRBMs.We need this fast.Hope our DRDO can get this job done asap as they are currently doing really great in every field.

what about our retaliation if they launch any strategic missile, would we wait or we will launch it seconds after they do.

Their missiles are dispersed and our spy sats can see the picture on the ground at the pre-launch stage thats when we can hit them so they never leave the ground.
