Pakistan Railways near Bankruptcy

The latest audit report of AG Pakistan reported a fraud of 564 Million during fiscal year 2010 - 11. What action has been taken so far? nothing.....
The corrupt people in PR are sucking this profitable organization for years. Every train that leaves railway station is always full, rather overloaded, same is case with PIA, the reason of loss is just corruption nothing else.

dollars or rupees??

Nature has not been too kind to Pakistan Railways either. According to the National Disaster Management Authority, the recent floods have caused a loss of Rs.6.7 billion to the railway network as several hundred kilometres of lines were washed away. The railway coaches were also the targets of angry mobs and arson attacks after Benazir Bhutto’s assassination resulting in huge losses.

Pakistan railways has around 220 engines . The member seems to be ignorant about his own country.

True

Pakistan Railways currently has 500 locomotives, out of which 200 are operational while 300 have been grounded for want of spares.

Only 140 locomotives are available to pull the passenger train service, and less than 20 are operating the freight train service.

About 50 locomotives are used for shunting and departmental services. Only locomotives is no solution, Pakistan Railways is also facing issues of fuel and lube oil for engines, forcing railways to operate to minimum.

What..? Only 8 engines in Pakistan Railways..? So, a maximum of 8 trains running..?

Somehow it seems Private Bus Operators mafia has something to do in this..

the video says so, must be correct

  1. Let us put it this way, what is not on the verge of bankruptcy in Pakistan?
  2. On our east, we have a very large network of railway and it (the railway) is not on the verge of bankruptcy. Where as we have a very small network compared to their's and still we cannot even manage it?

No that figure is not true, by going with 8 engines, means 4 trains running, not true.

Buy some engines from us we make good engines at a good price

We cannot afford indian engines, as for that we will have to pay kickbacks on both sides. ;)

So do you believe in whole of Pakistan there are just 8 trains working?

I suggest you check the railways web site and check how many trains are operational.

And how many lines were actually added by the concerned authorities. We still have railway signals and lines being used from the colonial era.

A roads and transport official from one of our provinces once said that investment in transport infrastructure is considered internationally as a dead invcestment.

So what do we expect from the concerned ministry then.

Yes, take the example of Karakoram Express, it leaves karachi for lahore in the evening, and at the same time it leaves from lahore for karachi. so at least two engines for one train.
