Which is why PAkistan should coldly look at its defence requirements and not try to keep up with (mirror) the Joneses next door.

If India and Pakistan positions were reversed, I would want India to spend more money on economy and infrastructure and energy, as they will reap long term affects on the economy and higher defence budget.

WS-10 engines on J-11 have been disatarous resulting in many crashes............all those people who want to go for J-10, Let me tell you single engine planes have never been good naval strike fighters.
J-11 would need lots modifications in Radars, EWS, IRST, engines to become a decent Naval strike fighter................J-15 would be far better option if its really comparable to Su-33 upto certain extent.

You need to qoute a source for this assumption. As far as i know, WS10 has only been tried along with AL31, on a trial basis. There might have been a problem with J10s in the past but currently there performance has been exemplary. As to single VS twin engined debate, it is a cost consideration for PAF. We have extensively evaluated the plane and like it very much and we will get it in the near future.

okay great if we get it in the near future....:)

how they gonna protect their economy without good defence...???.............:azn:

in per capital surely they can, but in national GDP not possible as india has 10 times the population of Pakistan

Wrong. In per capita terms Pakistan scores less than India. Let us not say feel good statements in PDF and think you would get away with it.

And it is not 10 times, it is 6.5 times. Get your facts right.

the J-11Bs are not a good buy as now.
with the JFT second block p and running, we must focus on fighter jets modernzation with JFT and FC-20. adding another platform to the list will cause immense burden on budget!

if Navy have $$ it must concentrate on getting some subs and frigates with better AAW capabilities. leave the air defence role to PAF with there mirages and perhaps the JFT BLK-1.

this is my personal opinion and you might disagree but i an stating this looking at the priority list.

@Arsalan: First of all welcome back.

I think if we really need Flankers for long range surface attack capability then we rather should buy J-15 than the J-11B as J-15 is a navalised variant and would carry an AESA radar it also has a much clean configuration and canards , it may also incorporate higher thrust engines with TVC nozzels.

thanks!
yes, a twin engine fighter will highly boost the PAF and ON capabilities but dont you feel that at as for now, the JHT and FC-20 are two programs that are on priority and are a substantial force and a big task to induct and master upon.
the twin engine longer range jet might come later but inducting four new platform parallel (JFT< FC-20 and F-16 blk52) is something that wont be happeingin.

Technically --- Yes

PAF is capable of integrating multiple birds at the same time , the reason i say so is because the F-16s and JF-17s have already been inducted and their operational infrastructure is in operation the issue for PAF now is the Induction of JF-17 Block II & FC-20.

Economically --- NO

The issue obviously would be shortage of resources !

By the way , this jet if procured wont be bought by Pakistan Air Force but Pakistan Navy , it would be stationed in either of our coastal air bases for long surface attack roles. PN would worry about deploying and maintaining these birds along with PAF. But i have my doubts about this development.

The surface platforms will require aerial cover especially in littorral role. That requires loitering time which single engined plkanes do not have much of.Also over the sea a dual engined plane provides more safety. This is the reason for suggesting J11. As to J10and JFT we will get them in any case.

sir do you think it is economically possible?

and do you suggest eastablishing a naval air fighter wing must come before
1)getting more effective frigates with better AAW abilities
2) modrenizing th submarine fleet, as of now we have only 3 agosta 90-B that can be considered on par with modren technology.

Sir if thats the case , shouldn't we be perusing navalized J-15s than J-11s ?

Pakistan Navy needs to expand its naval arm to meet the challenges ahead.

if the planes are ought by he navy, then does pns MEHRAN have he necessary equipment for maintenance of hese jets or will they be stationed at PAF masroor? , may sound like a stupid question!
