WASHINGTON: Pakistan and the United States completed their security level talks in Washington on Wednesday, days before a scheduled meeting between their foreign policy chiefs is scheduled to be held in New York.

Inter-Services Intelligence Director-General (DG ISI) Lt-Gen Nadeem Anjum spent three days in Washington this week, meeting senior security officials, including US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and CIA Director William J. Burns.

Neither side disclosed the details of these meetings, but the talks are believed to have focused on bilateral security concerns and the situation in Afghanistan, as the US believes that Pakistan can help stabilise the war-torn country.

The last security level talks between the two countries were held in July 2021, when then-National Security Advisor Moeed Yusuf met Mr Sullivan at White House. The Pakistani delegation had also included former ISI chief Lt-Gen Faiz Hameed.

Later, Mr Sullivan said in a tweet that their talks focused on ‘regional connectivity and security, and “the urgent need for a reduction in violence in Afghanistan.”

The current ISI chief’s visit followed an unprecedented deterioration in Pakistan-US ties, triggered by former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s claim that Washington conspired with opposition leaders to topple his government.

At a news briefing on Tuesday, US State Department Spokesperson Ned Price rejected Mr. Khan’s claims as speculations and lies, adding that the United States will not let “lies get in the way” of its bilateral ties with Pakistan, a relationship, he stressed, the US values.

“We are not going to let propaganda, misinformation, and disinformation — lies — get in the way of any bilateral relationship we have, including with the bilateral relationship we have with Pakistan, one we value,” he said while responding to a question about Mr. Khan’s claims.

On March 27, days before his ouster, the former PM brandished a letter at a rally in Islamabad, claiming it contained evidence of a “foreign conspiracy” hatched to topple his government.

All three wings of the US administration - the White House, the Pentagon, and the State Department - have rejected the accusations, saying there’s no veracity to them.

During Tuesday’s briefing, Mr. Price was also asked about a call made by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to Pakistan’s newly appointed Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari last week, during which the US official invited Bilawal to a United Nations food security summit on York in New on May 18.Mr. Price said that Mr Blinken and Mr Bhutto-Zardari also discussed the “ongoing engagement when it comes to our economic ties, trade and investment, climate, energy, health, and education.”

Well there were a very specific set of circumstances permitting the good old days which don’t translate to today

However, the basic transactional nature of the relationship contuses as before.

USA 🇺🇸 needs facilities or bases to operate drone strikes into Afghanistan.

All that is needed is an air corridor across Pakistan (and that has always been available), and nothing else for extended drone operations. Everything else is already in place and in use. No bases within Pakistan are needed.

I don’t the issue is with the “revenue” side of the relationship but rather the “brand” issues on this side.

The “brand” reputation took a hit during the early years of the revitalized relationship post 2001 but stabilized as the “demand generation” aspect kicked in and lots of pipeline was generated.
However, due to current market forces the “brand” will have a much more difficult task(albeit not impossible to circumvent) to justify its “services” again.

To this day the impact of what the 2016 🇺🇸 elections created is being felt. While things are back to normal to an extent and the wobble stabilizing - we do see the political landscape repercussions of it and how it impedes many things. Similarly, whatever Imran Khan as wrought makes returning to the status quo for the “brand” a very uphill task.

Good points, but suffice to say that the good old specter of existential instability caused by out of control resurgent religious forces is again likely to be effective in creating the need to support the "services" needed to quell them.

And that makes sense - it applies to many enterprises that exist on this model.
The “dark net” has organizations trying their best to crack down on it but it is also needed to exist to draw out elements to catch them.

Another analogy could be that I was prescribed Fenofibrate to treat high triglycerides but it has a high likelihood of causing kidney issues which may need treatment later.

I could take fenofibrate or change my lifestyle in drastic ways that would be extremely painful initially but will fix it more robustly - but not everyone may choose to and therefore fenofibrate continues to sell.

Its all about the patient’s choices and in this case the patient is so incapable of taking their own decisions and being assertive about them that many folks with advanced directives come in and do it for them.

But I dither, yes - the relationship is long established and as you say suits the system that was designed many ages ago.

Dither all you want, but your conclusion above is precise - and apt.

1) The ALOC ( forgot the US designated name for this ALOC) was first negotiated in musharraf era for 10 years after 9/11, the contract was renewed in PPP term and was set to expire in late 2021.

It has not been renewed.

This is a component of security agreement currently negotiated/finalised.

2) The 2nd component is American bases.

Nasirabad airbase to my assumption is developed for this specific purpose.

Khan government was averse to use of Pakistani airspace or land. This led to his remove.

We shall soon know the outcome.

Khan government was averse to use of Pakistani airspace or land.

And yet PMIK himself did nothing to stop the air corridor access during his own time in office. :D

Back to square one it is, bhikaristan.

Easier to breathe on the ventilator. Khaki frat seems to have a defeatist attitude. Who needs enemies when the top echelon of the armed forces are cuckolds?

bhi jaldi jaldi bataoo abu nay AH1z, T129 kay kabaar walay engine aur Fsola laraka tyaray diye hain kay nahe asal baat bataoo bhi

How do you know they arent any bases???
We had bases for 12 years and none knew.

Nasirabad airbase in Balochistan is the most likely location.

I am hoping there are OSINTS and others on the forum that can keep an eye on airbases along Afghanistan border.

Also air traffic monitoring of ALOC ? Don't know if its possible?

💵💵🇺🇸.
